Michelle, great advice!!!

I have been in several embassies, and they truly host great events. I need date for the Kennedy center and you will be the perfect companion for it :)

The only thing I haven't done is the lunch at the Museum of American Indian.. that's on my to do list now.
In fact, traveling is the best way to learn things and the things that matter.

When we stroll through the streets and visit museums, palaces and galleries, the entire nation’s history comes out right in front of us. Learning about different dynasties, conflicts and changes is so much easier. Travel teaches us not just about the world as it was in the past but also as it is today. It’s probably the best way to truly understand the political situation, economic scenario and social structure of the world we are living in today.

I have travel a quit a lot too, fortunately.  I rather collect experiences than possessions.

It's not that I do t love the museums and theater. I hold season's tickets at The Kennedy Center. :) But I'm going to try to give you some different alternatives:

 1. Love the emabssies, and guess what? Many open their doors to the public for tours, dinners, musical events and more. I've listened to Jazz in Germany, danced in Argentina, eaten chocolate in France and more. Check them out,

 2. There is nothing more beautiful than the Potomac early in the morning watching rowing teams do their runs. Peaceful. Beautiful.

 3. Did I say that was the most beautiful thing in DC? I lied. Make sure to check out the gardens at The National Cathedral.

 4. Have authentic Native American lunch at the Museum of American Indian. Yes, I know it's a cafeteria. By the way, you're welcome. :)

 5. Ready for real dinner? Try the Oval Room, Compass Rose, or Iron Gate in DC or Palette 22 in Shirlington or, well, just email me. I'm a foodie.

 6. Head to the Kennedy Center for a FREE show. Yep, there's a free show every night at 6 PM.

 7. Take on of the great walking tours to learn about everything from ghosts past to architecture to sin in the city.

 8. Visit the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria for your art fix.

 9. Head to Capitol Hill for Happy Hour.

 10. Email me and I'll fill you in on anything else of interest. I've been to all 50 states and 38 countries. You're coming to my favorite city in the world and the one I call home.

 xo

I need some suggestions for my upcoming visit please!

... it's a fun night out, and right at the edge of Chinatown if you like that sort of cuisine.  Lots to do here though - I am sure you'll have a great time

I love DC for the variety of things to do; plenty of museums, restaurants, nightlife.  I personally visit often the National Gallery of Art  and the  Hirshhorn Museum to check the current expositions. The Kennedy Center has several events. (if you are like me  and enjoy classic music, opera, ballet, etc).
I am looking forward to see the Mariinsky Ballet!!!

January it's almost over but in this site you can find monthly events and activities.

If is your first time in the city; well, the Smithsonian (all the museums is a good thing to do). Also, the normal things that every tourist do in here, White House, the Mall, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery ( if you go you should see The Changing of the Guard)

oh, yoga studios all over the metro area!

Hope this help!

V~

p.s. and great gentleman! :)

Thank you my dear! I have been to a few museums, but not many. I finally have time to explore this trip.

Ooooo that is a fantastic idea! I have never been to a hockey game. Thank you!

Visit
The Smithsonian Institute Hall of Gems,

The East building, by I M Pei, of the National Gallery of Art,

The cafeteria between the East and West buildings of the National Gallery of Art and sit beside the underground waterfall.

National Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue at sunset to view the sunset through the rose window,

Mount Vernon, George’s home.

If you have a few days, visit Williamsburg, Virginia, www.hostory.org, as there is NOTHING like it in the US.  If you go here, send me a Private Message (PM) for more information.

would be a Washington Nationals game, but unless you're coming in April or afterwards, they're not playing. But now, I do like going to the DC Improv.

If you visit the museums on the Capitol Mall, and you find yourself a bit worn out, go the to United States Botanic Garden which is on the same side as the National Air and Space Museum and close to the Capitol building. It's full of exotic plants and is very soothing and relaxing.

If you are a nature/animal lover you could go to Great Falls Park on the Potomac, take a long walk in Rock Creek Park, or visit the National Zoo. Shenandoah National Park is further away, about 2 hours west of DC.

Also there is Georgetown for shopping....  And Old Town Alexandria (by Torpedo Factory) http://www.visitalexandriava.com/old-town-alexandria/

Ford's Theater...  https://www.fords.org/

US Capitol  https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/plan-visit/book-tour-capitol

And a Caps game is a great idea...
