When I saw it, it reminded me so much of Bobby Allison's crash that led NASCAR to mandate restrictor plates.
But to answer your question: it's going to happen, but I disagree that Dale Jr.'s complaints are crying. The problem is what I call "moving parking lots." Packs of cars, one driver makes a minor mistake or the car gets squidgy and BAM! I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
It's expensive, but what's wrong with going with smaller, less powerful engines and removing the restrictor plates? I've advocated this for a long time. The races will be slower, but the drivers won't have to rely on drafting as much as they do now.
