just returned from Saint Petersburg, where I spent several days visiting a massage parlor just around the corner from my hotel. I have never used a massage parlor in the US, so I cannot make a comparison. I will just tell you what it was like.
I went to the I-Spa.su salon. It was in a basement apartment in a building around the corner from my hotel. I called ahead and the administrator made the appointment. When I arrived the administrator asked me to take a seat, and offered me coffee, tea or water while I sat down. After providing the beverage, she showed me a notebook with laminated pages describing all the different services. After I decided what I wanted, the administrator disappeared to have the women come in. Each walked in and said, “Hi, I Julia” or whatever. The girls were wearing bikinis, though one girl wore a see-through blouse.
After choosing the women, I was led to the room. It was a very pretty, marble-lined room the size of a large bedroom with a shower in one corner. One especially large room had a large whirlpool tub. Slippers, a towel and a robe were laid out on the bed. The administrator instructed me to shower, and call on the phone when I was ready. She brought my tea from the reception area.
The hour massage is half an hour massage of your back and then the remainder on your front. The woman slathers herself with lots of oil. The only things that are forbidden are oral sex and intercourse. All of the women allowed me to massage them. I didn’t massage their clitoris, except one woman who was obviously excited and whom I asked permission. But their breasts got lots of attention.
At the end we showered together.
An hour and a half was 5900 rubles, and I had a 20% discount coupon. So that 90 minutes cost me 4880 rubles or about $80. One young woman told me that she keeps only 30% of the fee. That’s only $27 for an hour and a half work! I tipped them liberally. I hope they remember.
That probably compares very favorably with American massage parlors. But of course, I cannot be sure. Most of these women spoke some little English, but even with my four years of Russian, sometime communication was difficult.
