Should we adopt a Gold Standard?

I love gold! I love its weight when I hold it in my hand. I love that it doesn't rust or tarnish or corrode or rot, that its shelf life is measured in geographic time. I love is glint and glitter.

I love the exceedingly fine degree of detail an artist can forge onto the face of a gold coin.

I love it more than platinum and palladium and silver and iron and copper and tin.

I love its history. I even love the dangers in mining it.

I love the exhilaration when finding it.

I love nuggets and bars and coins and artwork.

I also love how its value in dollars fluctuates from year to year.

If gold had its price fixed to the dollar, it would make me sad. I feel the value of gold should remain separate from other currencies and act as a measure against them.

The Gold Standard would make gold less precious, less beautiful to behold. It would gradually become as pedestrian as a fistful of paper.

I love gold too much maybe, but we all have our passions.

Once again, conservatives are trying to destroy the beauty and romance of the few remaining pleasures of life. The very thought makes me sad. Not angry, just sad. They cannot see its beauty. [SOB]

Wow I hope I don't have to give up the fillings in my teeth.
