You are grouping these three human characteristics into one.
Republicanism is one attribute, sex is another, and religion is another one altogether.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Earl Butz - if you don't know him, look him up on Wikipedia.
Sadly, he is known mostly for some shenanigans during his tenure as Secretary of Agriculture under Richard M Nixon (remember him?).
Anyway, Earl was known for his sharp tongue (quick too...) but he just missed becoming my hero by later backing away from a very famous comment he made:
Asked about Pope Paul the Sixth opposition to birth control, his answer was priceless: "He no playa the game, he no maka the rules"
