Interesting scientific explanation.  I will have to think on that, and reread later.  

My thought is that if we are living fully in the present moment, without remembering the pain of the past or fearful of the future...

It's a state of mind, in the present moment, a consciousness, a free-will choice between fear or love.  The battle is in our mind only, between our ego (illusion) and our love which is our authenic self.  The battle is the same for everyone,  no matter if Christians call it the devil, the devil is only an illusion of the mind, because only love is real.  I believe Jesus was a highly evolved human that remembered his authenic self.  But Jesus is not the only one, there are many others.~ Madison

Living conscious is being aware in the present moment.  We do that through our human experience though our senses.  That is why sex is so good, because we are aware of all our senses of touch, smell, taste, sound, and visual.

I would totally go to a church with no walls, that was outdoors,and non-profit.  I believe Jesus name has been so perverted by greed and love of power, but he had a message to teach us.  And the Bible has been distorted by rulers that desired to control the masses through fear of hell, and to keep the peasants happy with a promise of reward in an afterlife

most people like the idea of Hell even if it's supposed to be a place of torture, pain and burning

Might as well enjoy Hell now. After death there might not be anything.
