For those of you who have been wondering what happened to the site, apparently, they were raided by the FBI and shut down in June. They have pleaded guilty to facilitating prostitution. See the linked story.
The word is that this came about because authorities went after backpage.com (and are still going after them). Backpage, in an attempt to garner support, contacted other agencies like escorts.com seeking assistance. This led to the raid by the FBI.
From what I'm hearing, and why I'm posting this here, is that the authorities are still going after backpage.com, and are now looking at sites like eros.com where many of the ladies who post here advertise. From there, they will probably go after any agency that advertises on Eros which could include Pam's agency, Lita's agency, Global Courtesans, TLC, BodyMiracle, etc.
There's an excellent article here: http://www.xbiz.com/articles/141193 regarding the campaign against online escort sites. Anyone currently running an escort agency, or a website where escorts advertise, should read it.
I gotta believe that LE found a trove of information during their raid of escorts.com (real names and addresses of providers and hobbyists, credit card accounts, etc.). I don't think it is farfetched to assume that LE is building a national data base that can be used to target providers in specific areas/cities. Also, it is interesting that the US Attorney criminally charged the corporation but not the individual owners and employees of escorts.com. I wonder what the owners provided to avoid personal indictments. With a national election taking place in 2012, I wouldn't be surprised to see a large scale, concerted assault on providers and on-line advertising sites. It will play well in the key battleground states.

Prohibitionists today, like those 100 years ago, tend to be self-righteous, narrow minded jerks who cannot properly separate the world of adults (in particular, "consenting" adults) from the world of children, who indeed need to be protected. The next thing you know, "double income" families will be prohibited, and at least one parent will be required to stay home with the kids. Come to think of it, that sort of prohibition might help to ease the problems of unemployment and underemployment.
At least we can thank goodness for Nevada, and the Nevada counties that have legalized prostitution. Otherwise, anyone leery of the shenanigans of Law Enforcement would have to do a lot more international traveling.

As H.L. Mencken once quipped, "A Puritan is a person who is scared to death that someday, somebody might be happy."
Now the authorities are getting a little closer to home. Many girls on TER advertised on e.com Many others on eros and roomservice2000, which are getting close to being in the sightlines of the authorities.
Not so funny now, is it?
If what I was told is true, it's what Mr. French said and a lot more. They were being looked at for a long time prior to their demise.
Does that mean that other agencies or escort malls are not being looked at? Absolutely not. It just shows that using verification sites that don't require personal information is a great way to go.
I happened to be flipping channels last night and found a program on MSNBC that's apparently been running for a while on the "sex slave" industry. This particular program was talking about the sex trade in Oakland but there are other episodes about Vegas, Detroit and other cities.
From what I gather, there is a national task force that has been set up to find sites like escort.com that are involved in the sex trade and shut them down.
One of the leaders of the task force is Anita Alvarez who is a state's attorney in Cook County, Illinois (which includes Chicago).
Most of their targets are the child traffickers and the streetwalkers but they did mention going after advertising sites.
It's getting scary out there... there seems to be a serious attempt to drive the sex trade underground the way it was decades ago.
Just food for thought...
how many congressmen names were on the subscription list.
That Escorts.com was owned by a parent company that was much more, how should we say, diverse than what Escorts.com presented. It was an investigation into the parent company that led to the demise of the whole empire. The information is out there and not hard to find. I just don't want people to start freaking out over a perception not necessarily based in reality.
