genital herpes...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need some advise on what I might have contracted from a provider. I used a condom and about 10days later I came up with tiny blister at the base not on the shaft area. There were no symptoms that I have read about regarding fever, painful urination, only a clear fluid blister that went away about a week later. It came back last month after a 9 month lapse. I also got a rash on my leg that a doctor had said was shingles. The rash has appeared twice on my leg in the exact same spot. Is is possible that this isn't genital herpes but something else. I have been too embarrassed to go to the doctor about the genital part, but I haven't had any relations since jan because of the fear that it is herpes. I do have recurrent cold sores 6-8times a yr. Someone please give me good news on this

If you are embarrassed to talk to your doctor about this, go to an anonymous STD testing clinic. This board cannot give you an accurate diagnosis.

Many STD clinics (don't know about Planned Parenthood) don't do herpes tests.  You can purchase tests without physician authorization from Healthcheck USA.  You can choose a testing location close to you (though New York state does not permit this, so I've had to go to OH for mine), and order the tests.  The test sheets arrive in a few days.  You have the blood drawn, and even though the test site may ask the name of your doctor, the results aren't mailed to him.  The results are mailed to you in about a week.  Normal ranges are listed, so you don't need a doctor to interpret the results, though Healthcheck offers that service.  The STD panel runs about $272 and consists of Herpes, chlamydia antibody (test not considered as good as swabs), syphilis, and hepatitis.  I saw where HIV tests are now available.  These tests, plus county health dept. tests are a good alternative if you don't want your primary care doctor to know about this aspect of your life, as is my case.  Healthcheck offers all kinds of other tests as well.

Good luck.

Yes, you have herpes. You already know, or should know, that cold sores are herpes. Shingles and chicken pox are also herpes. So is Epstein-Barr ("mono"). Whether or not you have genital herpes in addition to the other forms of herpes you have is kinda moot. You should ask your doctor to put you on Valtrex or some other viral suppressant.

Latex or urethane prophylatics cmay not block transmission of genital warts or Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV). HPV cann be present on  parts of the skin that are not covered by the latex and thus can be transmitted.

Shingles is a type of herpes virus.

Cold sores are also a type of herpes virus.

There is no test for HPV except by examination. (That I know of)

thanks for the info.

Of all of the pics I have seen online about the genital herpes, they are all on the shaft and mine isn't. I am just grasping for straws here and hope that I have something else. I know I will probably need to go to a clinic.

Do you know if there is usually a rash with it also? I had a severe rash on the inner part of my thigh too.

I cannot receive emails on here since I am not a VIP anymore.

Thanks for your help

Why do so many ask medical questions on the forum? It seems like shared ignorance. I can assure you nothing would embarrass your doctor. Share your concerns with him or her.

visit the Center for Disease Control website.  The CDC publishes guidelines and facts that are used by healthcare professionals.  I've included the link below.  Your symptoms certainly sound like you have Herpes.  However, since you have recurrent cold sores you should know that it is possible to auto-transmit those to your genital area.  Also, you should know that the reason that most clinics don't offer Herpes testing is that the tests are expensive and often unreliable.  The fact that you have cold-sores means that you will test positive for Herpes...whether or not you have genital herpes because as pointed out above Herpes is a family of viruses not just one specific virus.  While there is a specific test to determine which kind you have, my understanding is that it is extremely expensive.  I know this doesn't give you much hope, but at least the link below will give you reliable, information.  Please go see your doctor to be certain.

I certainly appreciate the responses I have had here. I have just been so careful not to catch anything or give anything to anyone else. This whole  situation has just caught me off guard. I have always used protection and now to find out that you can get something anyway is just a bad thing. I am married but have not had relations with my wife in over 4 yrs and only had two providers since and both protected so this whole thing really sux. The mental part is worse than the medical part at this point, because it looks as if the sexual part of my life is over.

What's with all the drama?

You are not dieing are you?

From what I've read it doesn't sound like you have anything but maybe a pimple, so no dires in distress...

It is true that "Life is too short" so just enjoy it and not stress over it.

I think maybe you just need to see some more beautiful providers and enjoy it!  :)

friction can cause water blisters anywhere. Maybe the end of the condom was slipping .
