i'm really new to the hobby and recently scheduled with an FBSM provider (no FS).
She is highly reviewed (70+), has recent reviews, and even a few by long-standing members (some of whom i am pm-ing).
I've also done some other research on phone numbers and photos and nothing worrisome has really popped up.

The part that really worries me however, is that she never asked me for references, and also has not asked for my real name or any kind of verification

Would you be worried?

...give/volunteer to her. She may have used your phone number or e-mail to check you out. Her presence here (reviews etc) leads me to have few reservations about seeing her. I would do as you are by asking some of her reviewers about her.

i only gave my first name.
i did give a phone number, but the appointment had already been agreed to.

As xyz mentioned, she may have screened you without you even knowing it.
Or, maybe she screened you by gut feeling through your communication, or maybe she didn't screen. Perhaps because she is fbsm and not fs, she does a lighter screening or none. Anyway, the point is, with 70 plus reviews and some from long time hobbyists, you should be safe.

It's also quite possible that she has developed a "spider sense" if she's in the biz for a while.
Your interactions with her, if only via email or text can sometimes just flat out tell a provider if you're safe.

But most likely she did some form of background on you. Listen to the others in this thread, she's safe.

however, I always ask for references it could be that she did a phone number lookup or an e-mail look up but personally in the hobby I find many love people using alias i.e meaning that the e-mail is not real and the phone number is a burner phone. I would defiantly ask others about her just for you to be safe. I would also check if she has reviews elsewhere reason being that way you know for certain it's her. Don't get me wrong it would raise a red flag if I were a hobbyist or if I was booking a provider for myself, but do your research take into consideration these key points

Is she on the Top 100 in her state?
How recent are her reviews? (e-mail the most recent one)
How soon does it take her to respond?

I personally love honestly I would have bluntly asked her "Just out of curiosity beautiful why didn't you ask for abcd?"

ONLY EXCEPTION would be if you were whitelisted within the last couple of months. I don't ask the hobbyist for references if he whitelisted recently

It is possible , that she will get around to doing that. Yet, is waiting for right clues from you, that you are serious about meeting her, and willing to cooperate with her screening methods. Which, it sound like she is using an alternative to references, and may include, checking with your previous providers, to make sure you were a complete gentleman, and to see if you two are compatible for the date. Maybe she is first checking out,  real world info, confirming your place of employment. Some thing even as simple as finding your profile on your company web site, and possibly even some "old school methods of screening". The references help, yet some time, additional information is needed, to help her verify, you are not LE, you have not flipped your account. Try be some what, of an open book.  As for her services, maybe just make sure it does or does not include full service. Hopefully, everything works out for the two of you.
