I don't know who among those here have taken this survey.  I took it yesterday and my recommendation is to ignore it.

Let me explain:

The author writes:
"It is an original survey, the first of its kind in the world"

In private email with me, the author states:
"The questionnaire has been used with over 1,500 male clients prostitutes in the Western United States; in addition, some of the questions were used in Laumann's 1994 Chicago study (that one had a representative sample of over 2,000 adults) as well as with the population described above."

Those two statements are somewhat contradictory.  If it's an original survey, then how can it have been used before?  And, it's clearly not the first of its kind in the world - I took a similar survey some years ago (about 15) that was done by someone who was writing a book on the subject.

Furthermore, in looking at the questions, many of them seem to be flawed, forcing the respondent to give inaccurate answers which will, eventually, lead to inaccurate results.  Garbage in = garbage out.  In my opinion, the questions show a lack of understanding of the hobby and possibly a lack of understanding of sexual activity in general.

The stated goal of the research is to "help social scientists understand that the majority of hobbyists are not the disturbed or violent individuals that some have made them out to be".  I don't see how this goal can be accomplished with this survey.  In the first place, there were relatively few questions that seemed to address the issue.  In the second place, the assumption is that the people who are disturbed or violent individuals will take the survey and give accurate answers.

The worst part about it, in my opinion, is that the entire concept is inherently flawed because I believe that the majority of males who are hobbyists do not participate on this board - I believe we represent a minority of the individuals in the hobby.

In my opinion, surveys like this are worthless and should be ignored.

those who have - you have truly contributed to historic research!

For the first time in the history of social science, a quantitative survey of TER hobbyists, conducted specifically by the Love Goddess is now underway. It is an original survey, the first of its kind in the world, ever undertaken with a such a specific group - and I am asking those of you who have not yet done so to please participate!

The survey is anonymous and no IP addresses or any other identifying data is visible to me. I WANT it that way - the more anonymous, the better it is. And, the more hobbyists that participate, the more statistical power the survey will have.

Unfortunately I cannot put the link to the questionnaire directly in the posting, as this would potentially distribute the survey among individuals who are not TER hobbyists. Therefore, I will need you to PM me for the link (please click on the envelope next to my username). You only need to put the word "LINK" in the subject line, and I will PM you back with it. Obviously, this survey is only open to hobbyists who are VIP members - providers will not be able to participate.

Please help in this monumental endeavor - not only for the sake of my PhD which is long overdue and which rests on this work, but also to help social scientists understand that the majority of hobbyists are not the disturbed or violent individuals that some have made them out to be. I will share the results with you as soon as I am able, most likely by the end of this year. You may see this posting once more during the coming month. My apologies on that one - I need as many male hobbyists as possible.

Thank you so much for your help and please PM me for the link!

With gratitude,
The Love Goddess
