Cell phone numbers published to telemarketers

A national directory of cell phone numbers is soon to be published and distributed. When this directory is distributed, telemarketers will have access to your cell phone numbers, both business and personal. This will not only be an annoyance, but it will also use your cellular minutes. You can avoid these annoying and costly calls by registering your cell numbers, both business and personal if so desired, with the National Do Not Call list provided by the Federal Trade Commission. You can do this by calling the telephone number which follows:

888-382-1222

You must dial this number from the phone that you want to register in order for this process to work properly.

You can also register your phone by accessing the FTCs DO NOT CALL list website at the web address which follows:

www.donotcall.gov

You may want to pass this information along to anyone that you believe may be interested in registering their cell phones.

1) Check snopes.com http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp for information on the supposed "directory" that is being "published".  All they are trying to do is make it so that you can get someone's phone number like a home phone.  They will not be publishing any sort of paper or online directory, only a lookup database.

2) Telemarketers can already call you on your cell phone without any sort of directory.  Lets see, call 212-555-0001, then 212-555-0002, then...  There is nothing to stop a telemarketer from calling every single number out there already.
