2. nobody in Russia takes new winter sports such as freestyle skiing seriously, and
3. doping bans has deprived Russia of several leading medal contenders.

other new winter sporting events either. If it can't be timed or measured it shouldn't be an Olympic event. Except for figure skating of course, I just loved those Asian figure skaters triple axing or what ever they do around the ice.
Besides some of the most beloved Olympic moments have come from figure skating such as the rivilary between Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding....... ah the memories?
