During one of the many wars between Britain and France, the French captured a British major. While being interrogated, a French general asked the major why the British wore red coats. That made them extremely good targets, almost like putting a bullseye on their back. The major responded by saying that, if the officer in command was wounded, the men would not know he was wounded because his blood would blend with his coat, and his men would continue to fight in the battle. The Fench general commented that how that was an excellent idea. From that day forward, the French have worn brown pants.
