In two previous posts I offered respectively a list of the Escort Agencies, and a list of the Adult Talent [Porn] Agencies. In case you missed them, below there is the links:

I argued that is extremely important to know both the upstream and the downstream avenues of the market. Here I post another toolkit: A typological description of the escort market seen from the perspective of ‘organizing your information.’ This typology was developed with the help of Eddie when we were working on re-structuring his “UTR List.” I publish it now after so many delays due to the fact that my ‘free time’ has been drammatically shrinking in the last year. Without the foundamental encouragement of the last Eddie this Classification System would have never seen the light. I feel confident that Eddie would have made this a better one, but alas I assume complete responsibility from what it follow.

Information regarding porn stars, models and those in the UTR status is available in forms that does not fit the hobby world. We need to translate that information into a simple system such that fit it. This system can be thought as forming a typological classification based on simple criteria: namely, of being compact, synthetic and easy to consult. This is thus an abridged version of the more detailed one that I have used over the years to build my various databases. The two Lists I posted previously, when put together contain information on over 2,000 among porn stars, models and UTRs, and the Classification System I present here has been by ‘Trojan Horse’ to organized all the information I have been collecting for years.

The Classification System is divided in three blocs: a) Adult Film Star, b) Non-Adult Film Star and c) UTR. Each bloc is then subdived by specific categories, each one containing a set of indicators, both quantitative and qualitative, that can be used to classify any porn star, not-porn star and UTR that is or may be available. These categories are not mutually exclusive, and many may fit in one or more of them. I have used The Internet Adult Film Database (IAFD) to put down the quantitative information to all profiles I have been able to construct.

The IAFD is the primary source for information regarding Adult Stars. Below there is the link to a simply explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Adult_Film_Database
and this is the link to the IAFD database: http://www.iafd.com/

I complemented IAFD quantitative information with a set of qualitative information available for other sources e.g. http://www.freeones.com/ for all type of models. The various Internet company websites to search for new talent, and a host of websites related with the porn industry, the modeling industry and all the rest that is available out there to put down useful information on anyone that may be of interest for a hobbyist.

The purpose of the Classification System is just to organize any type of information that may relate to porn stars, not-adult star and UTRs of interest. Think about this system as your Personal Library Coding Structure: when you search through a catalog in a library, you may be looking for an author, the year of publication, how many books the author published, where the book is available, and so forth. The Classification System should allow you to develop your ‘coding structure’, so that when you search for a star of interest a simple ‘Find it’ command will do the job.

You have the List of Escort Agencies, and the list of the Adult Talent [Porn] Agencies. Now you have the Classification System to collect and organize your information from any sources, TER database reviews and the PS Board included. A simple Excel Spreasheet will be more than enough to start building it. You may don’t see the value in doing this, but after few weeks you will realize that like Tim Robbins in “The Shawshank Redemption” building this system will be no different that dugging the tunnel with your rock hammer over the previous weeks by searching 10 minutes at day. At the end of the tunnel there is the hope of escaping from the prison of being dependent on anyone else: 10 minutes of search at day, that’s all it takes.

Sincerely,
BM

Terrific stuff. It will be interesting to see what if any debate arises from this.
One question if I might. In the porn star classification system provided there is no description or title for performers who have between  a year and 3 years experience. The listed system defines porn stars as 3+ years and new comers as under a year.  Is this gap intentional?

The criterie of 'years' may be more detailed than the one I provided...IAFD allow you to do that and scale down the difference between Porn Star and Porn New Comer using 1 year = 50 titles, 2 years 100 titles, and 3+years = 150 titles, or any other interval.

The gap is based on the idea that between a Porn Star and a Porn New Comer there has to be some 'distance' in the system, which reflect the experience in performing. There are many New Comers who may feature in 10 titles in less than a month, shoot 5 scenes with Naughthy America, another 5 with Bang Bros, and then disappear before the movies are out in the market. I took in consideration the fact that with the explosion of the big 5 Internet Companies [e.g. Bang Bros, Brazzers, IC Porn/Reality Kings, Naughty America, Traffic Cash Gold] the so-called 'shelf time' of a new comer performer is now about 3/4 months. In this time frame a new comer can easily feature in 40/50 scenes, but if she does not pass the year in porn, then she is not going to be a Porn Star. Those who stay work hard to get to the status I identify as Porn Star, and that make a substantial difference from someone who is just a meteor. A difference that I attempt to capture by the 'gap' you correctly identified.

The more detailed version I developed may be to cumbersome to handle for those who objective is just to collect info on their favorite adult performer, so the decision to create an abridged version that may work towards less demanding scopes, but still maintaining a flexibility without renouncing to compactness.

That said, the Classification System is just a point of departure, and it does not pretend to be the 'one-fits-all system.' When with Eddie we started to think about updating his UTR list the main assumption was to create a data structure that would be as compact as possible and which objective was to fit the hobbyist mindset. I tried to hold that assumption and stick with that objective.

Once you put on on each profile you have created the various rates adult perfomer command, the Classification System will become your own "Porn Star Escort Catalog." What I have created offer you a coding system, but the way your organize your 'library' is up to you.

Thanks for your question,
Sincerely,
BM
