can vary a great deal based on the provider as well as the way you introduce yourself to your companion. I can only speak for myself but I often still ask for references but if a person is unable to provide them I will often find another form of verification, most common in Canada is verification through your hotel (ie. a call through the switchboard) for an outcall.
If you are looking to use this as US verification though I will say it may not work for you, if a lady asks me for a reference for a client I met and I did not verify them as I would in the US I certainly mention that to the lady. I am happy to let them know I met the client, he was polite, nice, etc. and that I felt no risk however I feel it's important to inform them that due to the differences in legalities I did not verify the client the same way I would in the US and as such it's up to her to decide if she would like to see the client without verification. 50% of the time the lady has said no and insisted on verification and the other half of the time the ladies are content with the reference as is.

I have met and worked with a number of ladies that work in both the US and Canada and in all cases when I have requested a US reference they have informed me if the client was seen in Canada and was not verified the same as they would be in the US.

Oh and Canada is a great place to visit so it's worth a trip regardless of the verification issues!

I was also wondering about verfication in a previous post.  Kyra, would you say most providers are fine with just a hotel verification?  I'll be coming up from the states and will be staying at one downtown.  My plan is outcalls and maybe some massage parlours.  I'm self employed now so verification can be a bit tricky for me, though not impossible.

Also, I heard that incalls will be legal in Ontario next year... is this true?

Dear Birddog681. I think you misunderstood the law. Incalls ARE LEGAL!!! However operating a bowdy house (brothels) and/or where there are multiple providers which can be interpreted as brothels are ILLEGAL. It got overturned not a long ago and only in Ontario (where Toronto is), it is legal starting from 2013 to operate a brothel and/or to hire security.

Hi BD - A few things, first I can't speak for anyone but myself and hotel verification is sometimes okay but not always. With agencies a lot of them will verify both through your number as well as the hotel room, that's pretty standard, with independents the individuals screening process is really up to the individual. In all cases it is best to speak to the individual or agency in advance and address your concern. No one is looking to make things difficult for the client rather it's a balancing act of the individuals right to privacy and each individuals comfort level in regards to security - even within an agency some ladies may request higher screening levels than other ladies, however with a bit of advance planning and an open and honest dialogue I am sure most will be able to address your concerns and help you find a way to meet someone you are interested in seeing.

In regards to the legalities, incalls are and always have been a grey area in Canadian law, by the most strict interpretation an incall is not legal and a common bawdy house is one whether it is one lady in it or several - there is nothing in the definition of it that states there must be 2 or more persons working out of a location at a time that I am aware of though if someone would like to correct me on that I am happy to stand corrected. That being said depending on the municipality you are in the level of enforcement on that has been rather varied. I think the most important thing to remember and this goes for any city you visit is to be a smart consumer, avoid anyone that you even remotely believe could be underage, trafficked or "at risk" as this tends to be the market the police will concentrate their efforts on (and rightly so).
As for if it will be legal in the future, I do not really know, yes the Ontario Supreme Court ruled that it will be but there is still room for appeal and having a conservative government in place there is still a year for a possible legislative debate. I am hopeful that the women at SPOC (Sex Professionals of Canada) will be able to keep their work moving forward and in such a positive direction as they've done a great job so far but it's still a year away and I'm not one for counting chickens before they hatch.
