My mini of Alyssa Riley was removed because it violated one of  the rules for posting a mini: A mini must be posted under a real handle. This rule was created to give credibility to the mini before the alias rview is allowed. However, since we can now post reviews under our aliases, I fail to see why we can't post minis under our aliases as long as we have reviews under our aliases.

I have too many reviews under my real handle so I now review under my alias for local and visiting providers. When I travel, I still review under my real handle, but that is only three or four times a year. If I post a mini under my real handle to follow this rule, and then review under my alias, I would basically out myself. It seems to me TER should encourage people to post minis to help fellow hobbyists by allowing posting minis under aliases

I suppose there is value in allowing alias's. but I hate when jerks  hide  behind them.
However, I think you make a good point and find myself in agreement with you.

Geesh.....I just threw up in my mouth.

The rules are outdated.  Times have changed.

I completely agree with you. That the Mini should be posted with the same handle that review is going to posted under.

The rules about Alias' made alot of since, when everyone could have 4 or 5 aliases and change them at will. Now that you can only have one Alias and it is basically treated like another user name with PM and review capabilities, then many of rules about Aliases should be revised.

The purpose of the alias review is to allow the reviewer to post an honest review without the fear of retaliation from the provider. Yes, it can abused by malicious reviewers for revenge, but I don't see it happen often as opposed to your assertion that most of the alias reviews you see are complaints. Take my reviews for example, I doubt you can find one that is out of the norm compared to other reviews.

Putting the pros and cons of alias reviews aside, the point of my OP is since we already allow alias reviews, I fail to see why we can't allow alias minis from aliases that have more than 5 reviews

But the entire review system, especially the numerical ratings, are no longer used the way they were, so it's pointless to complain, especially since TER won't do anything about it anyway.  They have far too much invested in this system to change it and then go back and change all the old reviews.
Besides, there are lots of good reasons to review under an alias.  I don't do it but I know people have their reasons (like keeping their handle and their reviews separate so gals can't blackmail them, among other things.)

I use alias reviews to keep my review count down and to prevent myself from making any top 100 lists.  Any time I hit 50 reviews with an alias, I change alias and start over.

You can elect to exclude yourself from "top 100" lists, in your profile preferences

As I wrote in the OP, TER should encourage more people to write minis. First, they fill up the board and generate interests, and secondly, they do help fellow hobbyists if they are honest minis. The accuracy of the pics is probably the most important part of the mini as many hobbyists base their decisions primarily on the pics. Plus, minis are not substitutes for reviews; a full review has to be submitted within 72 hours after the mini is posted. More minis means more reviews and I thought TER is a review site. I am scratching my head now.

Then why keep posting?

Yea that aspect of this topic doesn't interest me. I have no dog in this fight.

"You can" I think you meant to say.

You can't keep yourself off of those lists by checking a couple of boxes in Account Manager.

This is a typical "he said she said" story. I was wondering what makes you think her story is true, but not his, as you always side with the providers. Just because the guy wrote the review under his alias? Is that why you stated most of the alias reviews are complaints based on this single incident? When it comes to a "he said she said" story like this, I have learned it is best not to comment until you have the facts. I was involved in one not too long ago; she was lying through her teeth, and she even admitted in her text to me, but she knew I couldn't post her text messages because that would be grounds for banishment.

I was involved in several disputed reviews myself (I wrote them under my REAL handle if that matters). I received some nasty PM's from the providers threatening to blacklist me if I didn't modify my reviews. I stood my ground and told them I would forward the PM's to TER if they kept harassing me. They stopped and the reviews stood. I knew what I said in my reviews was true and TER stood with me. That's part of the reason I started writing reviews under my alias; the main reason is to keep my review count down under my real handle. Luckily, I have not had to write any bad review under my alias yet.

How long have you been in this hobby? Just over a year based on your review history, but you are giving out invalid opinions and advice like you are a seasoned veteran, and you wonder why people gang up on you? I don't belong to the "gang" you were referring to as I rarely post on the GD board, but my advice to you is until you have actually dealt with some "Bad Apple" providers, don't say anything on matters like this.
