that had several incarnations? I think that the last location was over on 2nd Ave.

It was the first real bar for transsexuals that I ever visited in the mid-1990's. I cannot remember the name of the place but it was an incredible, eye opening experience.

I mentioned the old Ziegfields in DC in another post and that got me thinking about all of the great clubs, some more like dives, of the past.

I've seen some reminiscing about some of the old clubs in LA and the Yukon Restaurant what about some other old gems now part of history? I always enjoy reading those posts.

The El Gato Negro in Chicago should be on that list too and there used to be a place in East St. Louis called Faces that always a good time at its height.

Any others?

About five years ago I went to a few TS bars in NYC but do not recall where or what they were named.  I recall the TS scene, similar to the LA scene, had TS nights as bars throughout the city.

Sorry but my knowledge is primarily West Coast.

Appreciate the reply Dog. Its driving me crazy that I can't think of the name of this place, I'd guess it closed for good around 2004. Any New Yorkers on here that might help? The two versions of this place that I went to were truly insane no matter what of the night of the week. I'll keep thinking about it too.

Are you thinking of Club Edelweiss?

Edelweiss was a great place

Opie420 and samui1 yes indeed that is it.

Club Edelweiss is the name I could not come up with so thank you. That was, even more than Peanuts in LA, the best club I ever walked into anywhere.

How many different versions of Edelweiss were there? I know I went to two different locations but I think that there may have been a third incarnation of it as well. There is truly nothing like Edelweiss around anymore.

I remember 45th & 11th ave. I had a lot of great times there but they were closed down by the police  for drugs and prostitution. I think there was an article in the NYT about that. Then they reopened in the Village, I think on 6th ave. Maybe 7th. If you go further back there was GG Barnum room and the the Grapevine.

that one was possibly 7th Avenue near Perry street. It was owned by the same guy. I'm pretty sure he named it Edelweiss as well.

I found this video link on YouTube. It shows the diner next door. I know for sure that I went to this location as well as one other but I think that there was also a third location. Club Edelweiss made Peanuts look tame in my opinion. This place was like no other club I have been to before or since that includes Power Exchange in SF.

I went to that location several times. When I lived in DC I would get up to NY at least once a month and this time frame coincided with when Edelweiss was at its height.

I've been to clubs in the US, Canada, and Europe, and never seen any place quite like Edelweiss. I'm sure that there are places today in Thailand or Brazil that capture that Edelweiss feel but nothing here on this continent.

That was a great place back in the early 90's on the west side of Manhattan. There was also a Dom establishment downstairs called Leather ladies. Brings back good memories. My regular Dom brought me in there one night and it was a blast!

Anyone remember Sally's, next to the NY Times building on West 43 or 44 street?  It closed years before Edelweiss did but it was my introduction to the hobby and I'll always regret not letting a hot blonde porn star from the '80's named Lolita pick me up; it wasn't until about two years later while watching her doing a television ad for ts phone sex that I realized it was her, but hey, we all have those, 'damn, I could have dated so and so' memories nagging at our dicks, right

Sally's pre-dates my time in NY which would have been from around 1993 -1998. I lived on the east coast at the time and tried to get to NYC at least one Friday or Saturday every month during that time frame. Someone should capture all of this history in a book.

I still say Club Edelweiss at it height beat every other club in North America at their respective height.

Partisan, do you remember happen to remember a blonde girl that hung out at Edelweiss that was from Czechoslovakia? First time I met her she was wearing these skin tight gold pants and literally left nothing to the imagination. I was out of there with her in no time. She didn't live in the city and ended staying the night because she missed her train out of Manhattan. Lost track of her, can't even remember her name. Saw her a second time and then she just vanished.

Sorry crutsinger, but I neither had that particular pleasure nor even recall her, but there were always lots of really hot girls there (a few of whom I even thought briefly "How would I introduce her to my mother?", lol).  But I do recall a few nights when Edelweiss harkened back, almost, to the mid- 80's when Sunset and Santa Monica Blvds in LA were, respectively, bazaars of impossibly HOT gender-girl and tranny (then an "acceptable" [?] term) flesh-for-rent... , but I digress down a path of horniness, so --, sorry to EOM.

Club Edelweiss was but a few miles from the UN and it seemed like every nation in the UN was represented in Club Edelweiss at one time. I met fun girls there from South Africa, India, Germany and of course Central and South America.

Gosh I've thought about that Czech girl often, just a great person too. If I had the disposable income then that I have now.....what I would not give for one more Saturday night at that club.
