If you start off as a SB/SD, it's a lot more likely to transition into BF/GF than it is FWB.
There is no real benefit to an SB to give up the money without getting "something" in return. By becoming a "real" couple she gets security, by becoming a FB she simply goes from "sport fucking" you for money to sport fucking" you for free. I can't think of that as being much of an incentive for her to change the relationship.
Now I have had a couple of SB that more or less started off as FB's where money "never" was much of an issue, just being treated nice and going to nice places was payment enough, but of course those too are the exception and not the rule.

I'm not really going to try it with any SBs I've seen, exactly for the reason you point out. If they want to see me for free, that is too much of a move to a "relationship" which I cannot do.
Better to try to convert a civvie to an SB lite, as you have discussed. I would live to find a FB who would love to be treated nice and get taken to nice places. That's the unicorn, I guess.

and an FU lifestyle. Other than that, you're fishing in the wrong pond for GFs, FB or FWB on sites such as SA. If I had a dollar for every time a POT SB told me that so many guys, specially in 20s and 30s, masquerade as POT SDs whereas in reality they are looking for a GF and have no intentions of appropriating an allowance or PPM.
Have you tried to offer some sugar to civvies on the dating sites you have mentioned? I have oftem maintained that if one is over 45 YO, those dating sites are purely sh*t shows if the seeker is seeking much younger women.
My first real SB has a husband with a very bad back injury. He's usually stoned on pain pills and hasn't been able to perform in quite a while. She initially wanted $$$, then $$, then just some time to talk and then free. We talk, a lot and drink very good rum. She enjoys the fact that we are both honest about SA and the adventures. We swap stories.
I asked if she would drop SA if her husband got better and could fuck again. Her yes, has dropped to a very weak maybe. The money and fun are addicting.
