A voice in the wilderness
True it's been awhile since college Anthropology, but the evidence of both sexes practicing polygamy equally wasn't there. My love of history gives reason that the evidence still isn't there.
CNN isn't a great source for historical let alone academic information. In fact, the end of the article by this non expert states it's an opinion.
What I do agree with is that the male of the specie wanders or at least his eye does. He in part tends to be far more a polygamist than the female. Men fight, we take what we want when we can. That has included women. Not usually anywhere near the main objective, but as WE know somebody will always pay a little gold for them.
I think monogamy is natural for us but I think lifetime partners are not.

My love of history gives reason that the evidence still isn't there. There's also contemporary examples of female sexploration, for instance the concept of partible paternity amongst certain indigenous peoples where a child is believed to be fathered by several men, and thus promiscuity is encouraged. Then there are the bonobo monkeys- closer to us genetically than chimpanzees. Not to mention the amazing amounts of data supporting the promiscuity of both male and female insects and other animals.
