TER General Board

An interesting site to visit for how webpages used to look..

There is a site called archive.org which has archived millions of webpages.  You can type in a URL and if the site has been archived, you can see how it looked in the past.

For example here is the TER homepage from 2000: http://web.archive.org/web/20000302111501/theeroticreview.com/main.shtml

Check out your favorite provider's website from the past...

This is something that more women need to be aware of. Many of us might not want our old sites from the past coming back to haunt us, especially if we've decided to move on to another industry.

SPs concerned about their sites being archived should learn about adding a robots.txt file to their site's root directory. It's possible to set the coding to disallow only the internet archive robot, so that your site can still be crawled by search engines.

A full explanation of robots.txt can be found here:

http://www.archive.org/about/exclude.php?PHPSESSID=d878fd82d714e1762b7223b6c4961d3a

You can also try the following meta tag:

meta name="robots" contents="noarchive"

Ok, that's as geeky as I should probably ever be on a site like this. I'm going to scare everyone off, aren't I?

Well, I've always said that nothing turns me on more than a man with a nice, big, juicy prefrontal lobe. If you can hand code your own html, you get bonus points.

One of my favorite hobbies is lurking outside of radio shacks with a stack of old Star Trek episodes, a dismantled CPU and a bag of cheesy poofs, the better to lure hot geek boys into my lair...

No geek girls?  *sniff* *sniff* Ain't that just the luck?

Would it help if I told you I was wearing my "Major Geeks" T-shirt (Geek Till It MHz!!!)
Or that I own a "Talk Nerdy To Me"  T-shirt?

How's about if I told you I moderate Geek Boards?
My specialty is spyware and hijacker removal...I can read HijackThis logs in my sleep...impressed yet?

How's about an anecdote?

A friend of mine (old school mainframe programmer) and I were on the phone (VOIP of course) he was asking me to help him research motherboards as he was wanting to build a gaming rig. He may know mainframes better than I, but I am the hardware maven.
So, I'm checking around the major MoBo manufacturers:  Abit, MSI, Soyo, gigabit, Asus....and while I'm waiting for the specifications page to load, I'm talking to my computer, and I say, "Come on....gimme the specs that make me wet." (ok, now I know that may seem a bit odd, but in fairness...it was a socket 939 board with the VIA K8T800Pro + VT8237 chipsets), for some reason my friend started laughing at that...odd guy.

So, anything yet?

I could give you the specs for my "Monsta' Box"...she's a beauty...1 1/2 years old,

Abit IT7max2 v2
2x 120gig SATA Seagate Baracudas
160gig Maxtor 7200 8meg PATA
nVidia 6800 with dual DVI (until I build my gaming rig when, then the Matrox Parhelia128 goes back in)
1024meg pc2700
Northwood 3.06 HT P4
Alpha S-PAL8952
Yamaha CRW-F1
Optorite DD0405
Vantec 450-watt PSU
all wrapped in Thermaltake case w/
2x SyncMaster 151P
Wacom 9x12 Intuos2

Ehhhh....no hope for the geek girl I guess...

Maybe the guys could read this back to the geeky woman of their choice...perhaps raise her system temp...  :)

"No geek girls?  *sniff* *sniff* Ain't that just the luck?"

Well, now you're just teasing me. The only thing hotter than geek boys are geek girls - and bi geek girls? Excuse me while I swoon for a moment.

*fanning myelf*

There, much better. See, I can tell though that you're a hardware kinda chick, which I dig - I just happen to be more of a software geekette. I was thinking maybe you could come over and upgrade my RAM, and I can explore your motherboard... aferwards, maybe we can upgrade our firmware together.

*rowr*

I'll bring the heatsink and the Artic Silver 5, and be sure to set the fan to "suck" to pull that heat out of your core....If you'll hack my .ini files and tweak my processes.

I like your sites...(I happen to do graphic and web design myself, and am a traditionally trained figure artist.)  Blog is good too (I prefer pMachine for blog software but that's just me :) ) I deffinately appreciate your intelligence and wit.

Found the perfect shirt for a webmaster/dom (I ever make it to Toronto, I'll bring ya one)

...I realized I needed to learn much about website material. You definitely are a fine geek!

those popsicle pix are the sexiest things I've ever seen. Wish I still lived in Canada.

Wow, you are the perfect woman for me.  Geeky, but absolutely sexy.

I guess its time to somehow figure out a need to do a business trip from Boston to Toronto!!!

And good advice on the "robots.txt" file.  That prevents alot of problems, not only with archiving, but also indexing from places like google, altavista and yahoo too.
