I'm not nit-picking what you wrote (for once lol) because I ask people this all the time, whether we're talking providers, bananas, or cars.  

Is 3 (three) "several" or a few?   Is the word "several" interchangeable or synonymous with "a few"?  
Don't ask me why this is a pet project of mine, as I can't explain it; I just really like to know others' definition.  
Or if there even is one.

I always call 3 "a few" but others say "several".....either one is fine, doesn't make a difference......but  when anyone calls three a "couple" my brain actually explodes.  LMAO.

Fully pulling out of either hole, then plunging back in, can lead to a lot of air being pumped in.  And that can get very uncomfortable (especially afterwards) when it happens during Greek.

Of course, the real definitions are not defining at all.... at the end it states that each word can indicate whatever number you want.  Which was the point behind my question and why I frequently ask people!  LOL!  

Sorry if I was unclear, but what I was saying is that I like asking people how they themselves define it.  

In other words, what does the word "several" indicate to you?   The same for "a few"?  When you hear each word, what relative number comes to mind?

Two is considered a couple, three is considered few.
But like many terms in our language people have gotten away from using them

Personally I think there is a bit of overlap where it comes to "a few" versus "several" and much of it has to do with context.

Where it comes to hooker rates, I would think that a "few hundred" would mean over two hundred, which would include fractional amounts as in $250, up to a maximum of about $400, whereas "several hundred" would start at perhaps $300, but would extend to around $8-900 hr where it would be replaced by "a grand or more"  

I agree that a couple means "two" or at the most two plus a fraction. If someone were to call $250  a "couple of hundred bucks" I wouldn't feel obligated to correct them, but three is most definitely NOT a couple.

I make no claims that others need to agree with my definition, but that's what the terms mean to me.

I always switch it up .. Unless of course they want to finish. But I like to give them lots of positions and if they tell me (or are repeats and I know) they aren't multiple then I will just try to keep them on edge until they are ready to EXPLODE.. But thats just me.

"Few" means more than one but a limited number less than "many"... not an exact science, huh?  I'd say this could be anything from 2 to around 4 or 5.  

"Couple" means two, not more or less.  So, while a couple can be a (subset of a) few, I agree it is also always only two.  (But, alas, my head would not explode if I heard this used incorrectly.  LOL)

"Several" is a number more than two, but less than "many".  I'd say this means three to perhaps 6 to 8.

"Many" means more than "several"... so a number greater than 6 to 8, typically.  Perhaps for most of us, the size or value of the item involved determines "many"?  I mean, having 8 jelly beans is not many, but perhaps owning 6 exotic cars would be.
