Yeast Infection (long; pathetic)

With the benefit of hindsight, I think I might have screwed up.  Wanted some comments on these facts:

1.  I’ve seen a local provider a few times.  From her posts and reviews on TER, and e-mails we exchanged, I’ve come to respect and admire her.  Some weeks ago, after some heavenly DATY, my lips felt slightly weird.  Maybe like the capillaries were working a little harder than usual (it’s hard to describe).  To me, the corners looked redder than normal too, but I couldn’t get independent confirmation.

   a. I applied an antibiotic ointment (Neosporin) and all felt fine by mid-week.

   b. I saw another provider, told her about the deal with the lips.  She asked to see and pronounced them fit to kiss and be seated on.

2.  The following week, I saw the first provider again.  More DATY but, this time, we discussed in advance whether I might be giving anything to her or vice versa.  She asked about open sores (none) and other symptoms (none other than as described), looked carefully at my lips, and then we DATY’d to one helluva orgasm.  Following that session, I brushed teeth and used Listerine.  Nevertheless, by the next morning, I felt the “weird lip” sensation again.

   a. This time, I asked my dentist to take a look as it also felt to me like my gums were inflamed.  He said gums were fine but prescribed Nystatin/Triamcinolone Cream for the fungus he diagnosed on my lips.

   b. Sure enough, it did the trick (but I still forewarned the next provider I saw.  As it turned out, she ONLY wanted me to come in her mouth while videotaping her, so we never got to DATY.)

3. Then I get bad news from my first provider.  I hadn’t told her about the recent Nystatin/Triamcinolone Rx.  Suddenly, she’s canceling appointments and referring business out to other providers right and left.  I feel like dirt because she experienced pain in her vagina that turned out to be a Yeast infection.

4. I didn’t tell her the Dentist's diagnosis because I wasn’t sure she gave me anything.  I also didn’t want to risk that she might feel “accused” or "insulted" rather than warned.  Y’all know her and she’s a treasure, but people can rightfully be sensitive about these issues.

   a. Could the Yeast have made my lips sore and inflamed my gums?

   b. Or is there just no way to tell if her Yeast thing was incubating away during those three weeks?

   c. Did I screw up by not contacting her after the dental diagnosis?  I did raise the issue with her twice.

   d. What the heck is a Yeast infection and how is it transmitted?  Sorry to be so ignorant.

   e. She was out of commission for a few days and I’m thinking maybe I could have sped up her healing process.  Or was it right to keep our conversations low key since I’m not medically trained and don’t know a virus from a bacteria, or even if there’s a fungus among us.

I apologize for using an alias.  Thanks in advance!

Could the Yeast have made my lips sore and inflamed my gums? Absolutely.

Or is there just no way to tell if her Yeast thing was incubating away during those three weeks?
She should have noticed some signs and symptoms but there could be conditions where she was asymptomatic (showed no signs).

Did I screw up by not contacting her after the dental diagnosis?  I did raise the issue with her twice.
I think that's what I would've done, but I'm not you. I wasn't in your shoes, so I can't comment on screwing up.

What the heck is a Yeast infection and how is it transmitted?
In this case the yeast, which is a type of fungus, is Candida albicans, grows out of control. Usually, it's present as part of your normal flora (bacteria and fungi that live in your body)and there is no problem. Due to illness, diet, and a host of other reasons, the yeast grows more than it normally does. Voila! Infection. At least that's what I learned in my medical mycology class, don't stress out about it.

I don't know about getting the yeast infection from DATY.  However, I have a female friend who somehow got a yeast infection in her mouth.  Also, I know for certain she does NOT DATY.  She was on some sort of medication for a fwe days and it cleared up.

Yeast infections of the mouth are also referred to as thrush.  It usually is like a white filmy subtance on the mucous membranes inside the mouth.  There are treatments for it.

You can get a yeast infection anywhere that is dark and moist.  We most commonly hear about woman getting them vaginally (caused by throwing off the Ph and/or killing the good bacteria).  It's not uncommon for woman to get many yeast infections a year, since the common triggers for them are things as basic as taking birth control pills, antibiotics, having bubble baths or douching.  No it's not an STD, it is simply an overgrowth of yeast.

You can get yeast through DATY if the lady currently has a yeast infection, but I think that VERY few woman would be willing or able to have any sexual conatct if they were currently one.  They are very painful, itchy and irritating, and touching the area just aggrevates it more.

You probably just got a yeast infection in your mouth all by yourself.  It happens, especially if you were on antibiotics for something in the past couple of weeks.  Having a diet high in sugar or starch can also promote the overgroth of candida (yeast).  Yeast infections are really common, and when we get them in places other than the vaginal area, often go unnoticed.  They usually clear up on their own, and often have such mild sympotoms if they are in the mouth or on your skin that you don't think twice about it.  A lot of men with a belly actually have yeast growth under the roll and don't have a clue that they do.

I doubt that you picked it up from her, and it certainly isn't something to be embarassed about.  If it continues to occur, change your diet to eliminate sugar and starch, and eat yoghurt with active bacterial cultures. Doing that provides a difficult environment for the yeast to survive in.

Found a website that I thought I'd share as I'm sure there are zillions of them! www.wholeapproach.com

It's a sure bet I will have a yeast infection if:

1) I'm stressed
2) I wear panty hose
3) I have wine or beer (in particular) frequently and in succession

4) I eat corn; anything pickled or fermented; or eat breads
5) haven't slept much
6) change birth control pills
7) take antibiotics

However, it has never affected anyone else I've ever been with that I've ever heard of so far; and that includes two marriages and etc.

And men can get yeast infections all by themselves, too, ya know. Ladies don't corner the market on yeastie beasties.

Exceptionally helpful replies.  Just the type of info and comment I was looking for. MUCH APPRECIATED!
