A sad day for America
As rejoicing rang from hell,
Awakening a mighty giant
On the day the towers fell.
Our hearts were saddened
As we watched this vicious act unfold,
As innocence met a fiery death
And seeds of war were sowed.
Shouts rang out from the middle east
That Allah has done his good
But no god joys in faultless deaths
Through certain cowards could.
America just sort of glides along,
But don't step on her toes ...
For her belief in right and justice
Will stomp out freedom's foes.
Many of the 911 images are still very fresh in my mind even though they occurred 6 years ago.
After 911, I read a story and saw pictures of a incredibly unique moment.
The story was of a request made by a Russian naval ship to do a close pass-by with a USA warship. The US commander thought it odd because warships normally kept their distance for various reasons but decided to grant the request.
As the Russian ship passed by, all of its crew was on deck in dress uniforms standing at attention. Amazingly, the Russian ship flew an American flag as its colors and on its side bore a large banner which read "We Stand By You".
The first time I read that story and saw the pictures I wept. I have searched for better pictures of the ship but couldn't find them but here are some small copies.
I don't think I will ever forget their affect on me. Though 911 was tragic, tragic day ... it was truly a day when the world mourned with us and in that moment we were one.
If only we didn't need tragedy to draw together!
