I am in california right now....and very pissed off. I bought a prepaid phone to use in california. Mind you...b/c of 9-11, we can't have fictious names on our phones so I have been borrowing someone else's phone the whole time.

My virgin mobile doesn't work in LAX.

what phone carriers are all you providers using as some hobbyists give out their landline numbers and I don't want my name on the caller id

you can still use whatever name you want on a pre-paid phone as far as i know. even "wanna rider" lol. coverage can be spotty with all services, but i hear verizon is the best overrall.  providers using non pre-paid cells simply need to ask their carriers to make their name/numbers show up as blocked or unavailable and be wary of calling  ppl at their 1800 numbers.  blocked ids do still show up there.

Any time I have gotten a call back from a provider, it has almost always come across caller ID as Private. That surely can't be too dificult to set up.

You can still make up a name...just buy the time on cards at the 7-11 or wherever, and pay cash.

I have heard Virgin has this problem.  Verizon has a good rep, and Tracfone even works in most of the country.

Sorry your visit started off that way.

Here is link to my recent post about Speakout (I must have posted this on the newbie board like 5 times already). It's truly an untraceable phone, it is active out of the box and uses Cingular's network. You can designate if you want to send your ID in the menu (off by default), but it won't send you name if you turn it on (just your number; plus I don't see how it can since its prepaid).

Here is link to other phones they have at 7-11

Hope that helps!!!

Now that you are touring you will need to pay for roaming..either a National plan or plan to pay a pretty penny for roaming! Make sure you have the 800 # for your provider..when you travel you just can't dial #611 for assistance.
Email me if you need some help

alltel won't allow caller id

I have been told that verizon puts charleston sc
on caller id

I guess I could have stayed with alltel and put that *number in front of each number and made each call private.

I am currently checking out all cell phone providers as I want one that will work in all cities.

We have SunCom in charleston but I hear that they drop the most calls. They are called AT&T elsewhere

Sprint has a free all incoming calls and I could use that on my ads but my sister calls me from Sprint and her cell phone dies every 5 mins and she lives near Richmond. I can't have even one phone call die.

Alltel is the best. Maybe they will relax on that law as I may forget to block my number each time I call a client.

I went to 7-11 which we don't have in SC but I had them in VA and got a speak out. The guy behind the counter kept trying to sell me a virgin mobile but I kept argueing that I already had one of them and virgin mobile doesn't work in LAX. I got a phone that works now.

I am thinking of cingular when I get home. I wish I could have alltel but they put your first and last name on the caller id and I can't have that.

Many of my posts to this board didn't make it...I think this hotel wasn't the right choice although it is fancy inside.

I don't have any stores nearby. 7-11 was 3 miles down the road and I walked to it which was nice as I like the weather here. It is warmer here than SC. It definately looks different. I am going to have to try LA sushi

granted I am not fluent in any foreign language but having 5 postings and trying to get decent directions to do any outcall with a rental is aggravating...

Is anyone wanting to be a driver near LAX?

Hey, Sexy Carolina didn't recommend Speakout, I did. I guess no thanks for me? :( Oh, well. Just make sure you buy alot of prepaid minutes if there are no 7-11 in SC.

Anyways, I'll glad I could help!
