Senator proposes Missouri tax on adult entertainment

KELLY WIESE

Associated Press

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - First, Missouri banished sexy billboards and young strip dancers. Now, a state senator wants to force adult entertainment businesses out of the Show-Me State by stripping them of their profits.

Legislation pending in the Senate would impose a 20 percent tax on revenues of all "sexually oriented businesses," charge a $5 fee for each person entering their doors and prohibit them from staying open late at night.

"The goal of the bill is to make Missouri inhospitable for these businesses," said Republican Sen. Matt Bartle, of Lee's Summit.

...Sen. Bartle is obviously gay -- no heterosexual man would want to drive those businesses way...

Though, of course, it's also possible he's one of those chaps whose wife keeps his cojones in a jar on the mantle. Does he drive a minivan? That's a sure way to tell...

God Squad = Wife has his cojones

Yes, yes. I know that's a sweeping statement, but it just so happens I specialize in broad, often-baseless generalizations.

But I'll compose a letter to my senator regarding this.

Well, we all are living in a country whose leader loves to spend all our capitals in Iraq. As long as hobbying is allowed I'll be happy.

Lee's Summit is a highly affluent suburb of Kansas City, and with its wealth, is predominantly RepubliCON.  The town isn't a home for adult entertainment, but does have a couple of strip clubs located about 20 minutes east along U.S. highway 50 not far from Central Missouri State University.

This has been on the local news the past couple of days.  This proposed law would not only affect sexually oriented businesses, but others as well.  One local news station focused on a particular bookstore & newsstand in central Kansas City.  This business does offer sexually-oriented items for sale, but functions as a regular newsstand, with the sexual material being a part of its business.  If this law were to pass, the business would be charged $5 for every customer who enters the newsstand even if they aren't there to shop for any "sexual" merchandise.  As also indicated, hours of operation would also be restricted (this bookstore is currently open 24/7), and 20% of its revenue taken.  This would be applicable to all businesses which dabble in the sex industry in Missouri, aka Misery.

The state of Misery mirrors the federal government right now, with RepubliCONs having control of the executive & legislative branches of government.  It's no surprise that a RepubliCON from an affluent district would attempt to propose something like this.

See the attached link for more details.  This link doesn't address the bookstore I described above.  That was something I saw on the local TV news, as a "live, on-site" sidebar to the issue.

... tax cable TV if the customer rents an X-Rated Film or watches MTV.  Tax hotel rooms where people rent X-Rated Films.  Tax the room and tax the Film Rental Itself.  Tax Video Stores that rent X-Rated Films.  Waste a lot of money trying to tax porn being ordered over the internet from out of state or out of the country.
