This is one of those "damned if you do and damned if you don't" scenarios. Some guys want us to wear perfume. We aren't mind readers. Since it's important to you I suggest just mentioning to your escort before the date that you are sensitive to perfume and strong scents.
You can also keep a sample size bottle of Febreeze in your glove compartment in case of emergency. Just take your shirt off spray it with the febreeze and shake it out in the air a bit. If your SO asks about the Febreeze you can say it was handed to you somewhere as a promotion or something like that. Better yet, develop a fondness for the stuff and start using it at home so it doesn't attract attention should you need to use it after a date.
I've had two occassions recently where a well-respected provided arrived to an appointment wearing the most "brazen" scent. While I appreciate that women wear perfume for different reasons, is it not a little obvious that perfume poses a great RISK to clients?
On one of these occassions I had a long shower to rid myself of the evidence, yet upon leaving she inisted on giving me a big hug...thus depositing a smell that forced me to buy a new shirt on my way home!!!
may not be so helpful. I agree we need to be careful and so perhaps the ladies can stick to more subtle scents. Of course, hobbyists should be ready for just about any possibility. Three years ago I got a lap dance at a strip bar in between my two offices. The dancer was all over me--as I desired. Upon leaving, realized that my shirt was covered in makeup. Hustled to the nearest department store and bought a shirt. Not sure what I would have done if I had to go back to my other office wearing a different shirt. However, I found the experience more laughable than threatening.

I agree with Lily. Definately stress the importance of her not wearing anything scented. However, you may still encounter some issues if the lady usually wears perfume. I am careful never to wear any, simply becasue the scent can linger in a car, or an article of clothing it may have been on at some point.
The spare shirt suggestion may work, but only if it is an identical one to what you were wearing when you left your house. Wearing a different shirt home will raise more suspicion than a little perfume.
Another suggestion in case of an 'emergency' is to keep a new bottle of perfume hidden somewhere in your car. If your wife picks up a scent on you and grills you about it, you just need to say you were planning a special evening (next week) and thought you would stop at the cosmetics counter and purchase a small romatic gift for the occasion. The proof is in the car. And she'll know it's impossible to leave a cosmetics counter after spending a few minutes there and not be smelling like perfume.
Perfume is a simple solution. I know a guy who 'accidentally' spilled s little gas on himself while putting gas in his car. A little dab goes a long ways. Billy
