I just received an email consisting entirely of;

"Trimmed or shaved?"

I see this quite often, and I'd like to point out to those who may send such messages, maybe without really thinking about it, that they are being rude.

It's the print equivalent of barking a command at someone, and nobody likes that, particularily if this is how you're making a first impression on someone. A "Hello" in an email is always nice, as is some kind of goodbye.

Just a reminder.

on how many idiotic, unthinking, illegal or just plain rude and moronic emails I've received in my relatively short time doing this... in fact, I've detailed some of them on my site in a section of my FAQs that I call "My Own Confederacy of Dunces."

So to you polite, articulate, well-informed gentlemen-- kudos! We love hearing from you. To you other boys, well, I've got a big, tall cap and a stool for you. Now sit on it.

Many of us have become so accustomed to email as a form of communication, that we've lost the art of personal interaction.  I'm very often guilty of forgetting the hellos and goodbyes, but "trimmed or shaved" is another level of rudeness.  If we believe that we're simply spending time together, that clearly falls into the off limits question anyway.

Trimmed or Shaved ?

If you want to see me today, im shaved
If you want to see me  in 2 or 3 days, Im trimmed
If you want to see me in one week, Im the African Lion Safari and you can lose small objects in there.

I should have responded with "I've shaved the chin whiskers but I've really gone all out with the Fu Manchu 'stache. And you?"

HA! I'm picturing a confused guy with the pith helmet parting the bush.

Mine favorite for the day was:

"wanna hook up"

My answer: DELETE

I responded with "I don't respond well to questions barked out like commands. If you want a response, please take the time to ask politely".

To which there was, surprise, no response. Oh well. Onward and upward

after the wonderful times we had together (er...me at least) I thought you'd be bowled over by my directness.  Alas, I was incorrect...

...certain folks (me), tend to be be very long-winded in their emails.

I'd think you'd at least applaud his brevity.

Frankly, I enjoy messages that get right to the point without a bunch of fluff or wasted verbage.  Now, if he would have said "hey bithc, trimmed or shaved" I would have agreed with you that a little chivalry was in order.

Hey...just because we done time together in the joint don't mean you gets to take no liberties with my feelings, #692510!

PS. I want my jumpsuit back.

I would hope that you'd know me better than that.  The email would be more like...wanna hook up for some card counting lessons?  Then when I got there, we could discuss how many articles of clothing the loser would remove.  Upon me losing all of my clothes in record time, I could show you where I'm ticklish.

....a lady of my aquaintance said she regards such emails as an additional screening tool.  It makes it easy for her to weed out those who will not behave like gentlemen.

Red, why don't you answer that you like your guys shaved?
