Just found out tonight in chat someone can impersonate me by creating an alias with extra spaces in the name. I have reported this to TER but my attempts to get the impersonator to cease and desist have proved fruitless.

If there's no link behind the chat persona or no envelope next to the board post, it's not me.

I asked thrice, for the person to stop -- now I hope they're booted.

I am sending the short bus for you...

On the bright side, they haven't stolen your image yet.

Happened once but not in chat.

Lex your problem is your so popular others want to copy you.

You need to copyright your name and for a fee I can be your agent and handle all that stuff for you.

To be fair, the impersonator didn't say anything that would have made me look bad (while I was there) -- I think it was a demonstration -- but the possibility is there, and it's somewhat unnerving, particularly in light of the recent posts about uncivil behavior in chat.

It is rather easy to mimick handles though. It is my understanding that they will take action against people for doing so.

Still, I'd prefer the "bug" fixed rather than any sort of action towards the impersonator (no harm, no foul). As I said, I think they were just proving it could be done and there was no malicious intent.

It's the potential for mischief, both light-hearted and mean-spirited, that concerns me.

You may have gotten the one that impersonated Lex on the 8th....but, the one that uses "oc dude"  (not oc_dude) and was in chat impersonating "L.A. Kings" and "Arizona Angel"  with exact usernames,and was the reason that others were talking about being able to fake another's name in chat, was in again 9th/10th, using the alias "oc dude".

This time he logged out rather quickly, after being greeted by everyone as "Flubber"  or the "fake oc"  "oc phantasm".

Wasn't me, swear to God Lex! Anyone wanna guess who it is though?
