Are there drawbacks that I couldn't think of?

Or is it being used but not publicized?

I think it would be good for repeat clients, especially those without SO's.

Although PayPal makes a business of affording a discreet form of monetary transactions they don't wish to be associated with the oldest form of business necessitating discretion.

... and seizing everything in it when they suspect the transaction is for an illegal activity.

Three seconds of thought about this will tell you why Paypal wants to avoid any wiff of aiding and abetting something illegal, especially if it crosses state lines.

Sounds like a ripoff to me.  The only two times I tried to use it, it rejected me for reasons having "to do with their policies"  (well duh!)  I had no idea what they are talking about.  Sound like a big hassle.  I'll stick with cash and for the gals that know me well, checks.

The issue is with the confirmation of the transaction that goes back to the maker of the payment.  Hard to control provider confidentiality when PayPal confirms payment.

I usd it from time to time for the last 5 year, mostly for auctions; sometimes friends repaid me for small debts. I checked their policy yesterday. They take about 3% for a premium acoount and none for a personal account.

One of my friends use it for child support payment.

Paypal has a nasty habit of freezing ANY account they think is involved in ANY kind of adult business...messageboards, paysites etc...it's happened to several people I know.

WHen PayPal was bought out by Ebay they started making sweeps of the internet and freezing accounts tht were linked to any sort of Adult Websites. I myself had only a few hundreddollars frozen and unfortunately it is still there almost 3 years later. I know of one instance of a woman i knew very very and on a personal basis who had many thousands frozen and when the time came to unlock the account, they took huge service fee's off the top.

You can use PayPal discreetly, but it becomes more of a hassle than it is worth. You cannot put a logo on your site nor can you mention it in text because the Good Samaritans at Ebay have their  own little army to combat anything they find morally reprehensible.

Cash is the best and always has been. It just makes life easier all around. :)

And they keep emailing me saying my account is not up to date. I don't have, nor have I ever had, an account with PayPal. I've had to email them at least four times to tell them. Sorry but they urk me!

Hugs,
Ciara

If you look at the hidden URL of the highlighted links, they are not PayPal.

. . . probably rather not handle so much cash. Let's say they go to the bank twice a week, that would be thousands of dollars in large bills.

And I rather not withdraw so much cash either. Every couple of weeks I had to withdraw hundreds of dollars at the teller's -- a real one -- window.

1.  If you do use PayPal to accept funds in this hobby, don't be afraid of having the money frozen.  Transfer it, regularly, from the PayPal account to a different bank account.  If you do this daily or every few days, you won't lose that much if PayPal decides to freeze the funds within their reach - they can't touch the account you transferred the money to.

2.  It's so easy to tell a spam message - the URL in your browser won't be the same one as the REAL PayPal website.

I discussed this a little with a lady once, and she said that all the providers she knew about had some sort of system worked out for not keeping large quantities of cash on them, which usually meant making ATM deposits often.  When I mentioned to her that the IRS tracked cash deposits of $10,000 and larger, she laughed and said that she never let it go *that* long.

I would generally presume that even a touring lady has some folks who know where she is, and might come by to pick up deposits/splits.  It would seem cosmically unwise to go to a city by yourself, engage in extralegal practices involving significant quantities of cash, and *not* have some form of backup.

bbrain makes a comment about providers visiting banks 2x a week. If there is a large amount of cash--say $2,000 or more ther would likely be 2 or 3 bank visits per day assuming the bank is open
