Its not the legal issue for virtually all the guys that is the problem, its the accusation and public outing of that accusation that is the problem that may cost a guy his marriage, job, etc

and note how many of them indicate how the case often hinges on statements made by the defendant at the time of arrest.

Often time the charges are enhanced by trying to talk your way out of things by lying as that is a serious offense.  You don't have to be under oath to be found guilty of lying to LE.

Just be calm and polite, and tell LE that you do not want to answer any questions, and would like to contact your lawyer.  Also, do not allow them to search you, your car, or your cell phone.

Of course identify yourself, show ID or whatever.   Also be calm and respectful when you decline to answer.

Such as, "I respectfully decline to answer questions without advice from my attorney."  Or something of that nature.  

The calmness indicates confidence that you know your rights and they are less likely to try to scare you out of your silence.

Note you HAVE to make the claim verbally.  Total silence is not considered an assertion of rights.  

If they are going to arrest you then you will be taken at that time and questioning will cease.  Then at the booking location you will get a chance to call for legal assistance

The majority of people confess because they fall for the BS line that cops say, "I just want to help you. " That's a lie that they tell everyone they arrest. Let your lawyer do the talking for you. Cops are trained how to lie and manipulate people and they do this for a living. You can't compete with them. They don't know what's going to happen to you and they don't care. Don't talk at all. They will ask you the same questions over and over. It's not because they are dumb. They are looking to catch you in a lie. Memorize the name and number for a lawyer if you get busted. Don't expect them to give you your cell phone back to you so having one in your phone contacts won't be of any help. After you get busted is the wrong time to bring up the subject of bail money with a friend. Ask yourself, who am I gonna call if I get busted? I'm not married these days, but I'd hate to have to have that conversation with my wife if I was. A lawyer is probably your best bet as a decent one can have your bail set up with a local bail bond company (for a fee of course) Get a lawyer in the town you play in and be ready to pay big time.

Fellow Hobbyist that we don't know. Should we assume that they are safe to tell of our experience.  WE like to help each other and expand on our experience. We really don't know who they are.  What say you!

When you are being questioned nothing you could possibly say is going to help YOU...that's not the purpose for the questions.

Since what you post isn't under oath, no one knows, including the court, whether what you said happened was real or was from your imagination.  I wouldn't go posting real life identifying information, though, since we all know systems can be hacked.
