... It was when I was in heavy training and sweating a lot.  Not sure if this applies to you.  I was advised to increase my salt intake.  That worked.

For those of you who should be careful with salt intake try Gatorade or Powerade.  It has sodium and replaces electrolytes.

With the bananas. You need potassium, but the bananas are going to make you fat if you eat enough to get the potassium you need. Take 200mg of potassium supplement (pills) daily and after about three days no more cramps.  Discovered this when I was getting cramps as a competitive weight lifter 25 years ago. Still take them and haven't had a cramp since then. 60 day supply is less than $10 at most vitamin stores.

Sodium is salt. Anyone who's doctor told them to be careful with salt needs to be very careful with the ade drinks. I will say that while gatorade just has a fuck ton of sodium, which makes you thirsty for more (great marketing), powerade has sodium along with three other electrolytes that were on Sage's list of things to increase intake of: potassium, magnesium, and calcium. They make a no calorie version. Hydration and electrolytes really may help with cramps.

Erin, you might also try stretching your foot and calf muscles several times per day.* One that always worked great for me: Stand with the ball of your foot against something solid like a wall or a post or the end of a chest of drawers, with your heel on the ground. Straighten your knee and lean forward like you're trying to fold the top of your foot up against your shin. Don't hurt yourself but push until you can feel a good stretch. DO NOT bounce, hold it for 5-10 seconds. I find on almost any surface it's difficult to keep your heel from sliding out away from the wall when barefoot, but a pair of walking shoes or sneakers seems to lock it in pretty well. Do this several times a day, especially right before sex** or anything else that brings on the cramps.

Also, get your dates to give you a nice foot rub as part of foreplay. Don't be shy about giving directions so they really get in there and work those muscles loose. I'm sure a podiatrist would tell you to restrict or eliminate wearing of high heels. I really hate saying that, as I find them very sexy, but it is what it is.

*Pretend this is written in a microscopic font, like it would be on any exercise product or program: Always consult a physician before beginning any exercise or stretching regiment.

**Ask your doctor if you are healthy enough for sex. LOL

I believe you are correct bud. I happened to be in the room when a doctor was telling someone to take potassium pills and I asked why not just eat a couple bananas. He said a great big pile of bananas would be needed.

Oh great!! I've been typing bananas, so now I have a Gwen Stefani ear worm!! 😡

I do take a multi-vitamin and I drink more than enough water. I literally have a Poland Springs water dispenser next to my bed. So hydration isn't an issue.

He (or she) needs to really work the instep to get the nerve away from the bones that are impinging on it causing the pain.  I do this a lot with a number of gals I see and they love it and it really works, and feels great too.

Have them use plenty of oil and lotion.

If you do need potassium, try avocados.  They have much more than even bananas.

Staying well hydrated is always a good idea

...when I was a competitive swimmer in high school. So did a lot of swimmers. The instant solution was to stand tippy-toed on the ball of the cramped foot, bearing down on it with full body weight. A little gentle bouncing in that position helps sometimes. It still happens, maybe twice a year, and always when I'm having sex - though it once happened when I was just thinking about having sex (which doesn't help narrow it down. If I'm not having it, I'm probably thinking about it anyway).

Yeah, flipity flops probably don't help. You need some arch support girl!

No, don't cut them out completely. Photo shoots and the first three minutes of dates should be fine. LOL!

Like Fish said, find a foot guy. You could run a special. $xx off a three hour date if at least the first hour is a good foot rub.

Good luck with all that.

Try increasing your salt intake.  Also, just a banana or two (no matter how consumed! :) ) might not provide enough potassium.  If you're sweating a lot, you're short on electrolytes.  Try potassium and calcium supplement tablets, available at any CVS or Walgreen's or whatever they have where you are.
