I have the pleasure of taking a business trip to Paris and Madrid at the end of June. Any suggestions for how to go about hobbying? I have no French and very broken Spanish.

Not certain about Madrid, but the sex trade is above-board in Paris...ads in locals papers, phone booths, etc. What you need are reviews to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I did not hobby there, but I stayed there a week for a vacation. I found out quick that knowing a few phrases of Spanish doesn't count for shit. Most people I encountered in cafes etc spoke little to no English. I pointed at menus and said "este". The hostel I stayed at had one attendant who spoke English, and he was German.
My humble and probably useless advice: take a canversational Spanish class, and research like the the legal and safety issues that exist in Madrid. I do know that hapless tourists are targeted by muggers and thugs (heck, I read it in a Fodor's guide). I would say learn as much of the language as you can find out where the safer locales are.
Or stick with Germany or Holland fer hobbying.
