My Cancun experience...

Hi Suzanne,

I went to Cancun just under 2 years ago.  It was fabulous in every way.  Nowhere else I've been combines Carribean clear water and white sand with perfect weather, Mexican food and hospitality quite like Cancun.  I stayed at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach and recommend it highly....exquisite service.  The only knock on Cancun is that it has lost some of the charm of the less developed cities.

I went to Tulum during my trip, and for me, it was the lowlight of the trip....boring as can be.  However, know that I'm in need of constant action and kind of a city boy, I guess.  I found the ruins interesting for about 60 seconds or so.  After that, I just wished I was back at my resort sipping a Pina Colada by the pool.

Last suggestion:  Eat at La Habichuela in downtown...charming and killer food.  I also enjoyed La Distilleria....a transformed tequila distilery....cool place.

Have fun,

Has anyone visited the Tulum area of Mexico, about one and a half hours by car outside of Cancun, specifically the EcoTulum Resorts and Spa, and their three beach front locations.  Looks good to me, but sometimes you guys know things no one else in the whole world knows!!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Suznane

Yes... its a ways out from Cancun and other more populated areas... used to be the destination for "Ruins" and such, but now is more populated with things and places... just know that you don't want to be traveling the roads at night. Have a great vacation.

Tulum, Akumel (sp?), and Coba were the highlight of a trip I took a couple of years ago to dive and also check out Mayan ruins. Probably not your style, but I camped out on the beach in Tulum. In any event, I'm sure you'll have a good time as long as you stay clear of Cancun.

I also visited Tulum for diving and ruin exploration. There is also good snorkeling in that area. One word of advice. If you rent a car don't leave anything of value in it. While snorkling we locked our dive gear in our rental car and when we came back it was gone. They may have more security in theses areas now but I would count on it. Also, if you like ruins check out the chichen itza ruins.  We did and it was great.

Have fun
