TER General Board

I've tried to come up with an exact definition. Generally...

I send providers a note about there photos on TER , it may say nice photo, thanks for sharing.
Or if I see a thread and I can tell they are hurting . A nice word to pick them up.
But what is considered a troll ?
I do not want to become one! Or think I am freak or something.
Thanks

A troll is in the eyes of the beholder.  But to me, it is someone who is deliberately setting out to waste a providers' time for free.
There's a thread over on the Newbie Board right now about time-wasters.  Can you guess who started it? LOL!  ;-)

Some ladies don't want to get PMs of "nice photo" if you're not going to book a date.... ever.  I'll usually say thank-you the first time or two but after that, if you're not ever going to be able to schedule with me: you're wasting your time.

But it's your time to waste, so by all means, waste away.

Sending me a "nice word" if you think I'm hurting?  LOL.  Again, I'll say thank you but that's about it.

Oh! And a "troll" to me is someone who keeps saying he wants to schedule with me but then when he makes an almost-real inquiry it is apparent that he's never bothered to seriously look over my ads or website.  (Sound familiar?) ;-)

Love ya!

All that Debra said and I also consider a hobbyist or provider regularly throwing stuff on the boards solely to stir the pot  with no other contribution a troll. Some folks on both ends of this industry make dubious claims seemingly aimed at gloating or policy reform. PM's can be great, but a hurting hooker can't pay the water bill with them. :-)

bad form to PM about photos unless it's in conjunction with requesting an appointment.  These are not civvie women, so small talk is an intrusion into their time.  I agree that if they want to waste their own time, its on them, but they shouldn't waste a provider's.  When you are a regular, many providers will not object to some contact in between appointments, but until you have that status, the OP was correct in his feeling that he might be crossing over to troll-land.  Acknowledgment of the problem is the first step to recovery, so kudos to him.  Lol

the way some guys will purposely "bait" you into responding socially by throwing you a compliment.  Then the back and forth starts until you get tired of it and stop responding.  Then they are off to the next one.  That is classic trolling.

I've even had Newbies PM me, with a "what does it mean?" question about how they had this great email exchange going after they told a provider they liked her website, and then three days later (after 20 emails back and forth) she stopped responding.

That's the standard forum definition.  Not just on this forum but every forum on every topic in the world.  Some people like to incite drama.  The standard refrain is "Don't feed the troll" meaning don't respond at all, it'll just encourage them.

Providers might have a different meaning for the word.

Troll: some one who goes out of there way to start drama and posts things to get under someones skin.

It could scare off alot of potential providers.

Sidenote to op: I do not think sending a note to a provider telling her you like her photo is a bad a thing. Some may see it like that though so keep that in mind at all times.

compliment out of the blue, so NO, I wasn't baiting you . . . . but if you sent me a PM, I would respond.  LOL

Trolls and attentions seekers walk the same line but that's another story. Either way it registers to providers as someone to stay away from.

Somebody who posts mean or provocative comments strictly to watch how people respond. They usually are neither helpful or truly sincere.

I'd wager a lot of the clients slamming providers on this board would really like to have a session with them and keep their profiles in the Favorites file.

I guess I'll stop PMing (once, trolling?) to tell you
your Photo Board pic was hottt. But I'll still click
"like" (not trolling, right?).

There's a lot of rules on this board that I'm trying to keep
up with as they are being made up. I think I need a drink. 😎
