I don't find this funny as the reporters and the fire-fighters do.  I realize it's only $5, but there's a really low-down condensation here that pisses me off, not to mention manipulativeness.  

What are guys supposed to do if they're unhappy at the joke?  Demand their money back?  Making them not only selfish spoil-sports but perverts as well?

It really crosses the line, IMO.

It reminded me of an exhibit to see "baby rattlers" in a cage in Georgia. After paying your dollar to see the "snakes", there were plastic baby rattles  in the cage.

Personally, I found it hillarious!

It is just amazing to me that a grown man would get so upset over this ... life is way to short to let the small stuff get to you.

The sign simply said "topless carwash". It did not say, "Hot blonde female with 40DD natural breasts will be completely topless as she hoses down your car"

Having said that, the fire department (or agency) provided those people who wanted their car washed (clients) with exactly what they advertised. They got a topless car wash by members of the fire department. The fire department never said anything regarding gender.  As a man, you ASSUMED your car was going to be washed by a topless woman. Your fault, not theirs. Now if you had questioned the ladies holding the sign as to who would be administering the car wash, and they lied to you, then you have some validity in your argument. This was not the case.  

Now, if it had in fact been a topless woman, would you have bemoaned a female driver who  argued she was the victim of a bait and switch because she thought she was going to get a car wash by a topless man? Prob. so.

Though I'll admit, in most neighborhoods, this would have been an oddity-- something the city would close down in a second if it were women.  (Another thing showing that it's different if the men do it than if women do it.  The effect is different.)  It might have been worth looking into just for that.

I have to say, it's somewhat incredible to me that guys would take this, and then defend it. It's a subtle point, I'll admit-- but it shows me that guys are trained to be exploited, too.

Striptease is something else now. :) Nobody else is getting it, here.      

I'm one of the few men of my generation who never saw an episode of "Charlie's Angels." It convinced everybody, including my family that I was gay. Not that I was a prude, or didn't want to see beautiful women, but I didn't want an awful plot and a commercial pitch when all I wanted to see was beautiful women. (Which they didn't show nude.) No, I'd rather look at Playboy and Penthouse, or hardcore.  

Not that I could articulate it at the time. I still haven't watched an episode.

Honestly, I knew it was a scam the second the reporter started his report. Anyone who fell for it should be a little embarrassed at his naivety. BTW, If it "angers" a guy that much he needs to re-examine his priorities in life....

Time gives me a some perspective, though. I would have been one of those spoil-sports who demanded his money back on the spot. It's not funny to me.

I don't want to berate or beat you up here...but I thought it was incredibly funny!  

It was a real lesson in sociologically instilled gender expectations.  Using the word 'topless' and a woman to hold the sign made you expect to see topless women.  After all, men never wash a car topless...only women go topless...men just go without their shirts. ;)

Gender expectations: women aren't going to pay guys to go "topless." In general they won't. To me, there's a good biological reason why two different words are used.  One is "going shirtless," and the other is "showing your tits."  The genders see and respond to nudity quite differently, as providers know when they are sent cock-shots.

yes it is a joke, yes it is amusing, & yes it is only $5..

That being said, you DO have a valid point... it is a scam regardless & you have a right to be ticked off if you get had.

I don't think women would be too amused if they were expecting a deal on a Coach or Gucci handbag or Manolo Blahnik shoes only to find that semantics were used to get one over them

And, if the set-up that deprived the ladies of their expected $5 Coach/Gucci/Blahnik products showed them to be as avaricious for such gee-gaws as fellas are anxious to see topless ladies, then, no, the unfortunate ladies would would not be amused, but everyone else absolutely would be.  

My meter is registering about 93% amusement and 7% [faint] indignation.
