I just read the recent review of Briana Banks, who is charging 4K an hour. The reviewer gave her a 9/9. The whole thing reminded me of when Alain Ducasse opened a restaurant in NY that he eventually closed because it was just too expensive even for a NY clientele willing to pay a lot of money for a superb dining experience.
On a personal level I think I have closed the door on sessions costing more than 1K. The reasons are partly financial, but also because while some of my PS sessions were very memorable, I've had other less expensive sessions which have rocked my world.
and now I simply won't spend over a certain dollar amount. The surroundings may vary but when the entertainment begins, the acts are very similar.

I suspect the $4K ticket has less to do with the quality of the experience and more to do with limited the number of people who can have the experience.
Look Pebble Beach is a public golf course, but you don't see too many hackers there cause they are unwilling to pay the $400 ticket.
I'm sure Briana (and other $1K+ providers) can find plenty of guys willing to part with that kind of cash simply to say they've been there, much as many golfers eventually pay the $400 ticket at Pebble simply to say they have played there.
(I'm guilty on the Pebble Beach ego trip but have yet to go more that $500/hr on the provider front, since I don't "brag" about where I have hobbied as I might brag abut where I have played golf, LOL)

I would not pay that amount - no matter how good it might be.... but the real question is would I enjoy $4000 worth? I would rather take some of that $$ and spend it on an evening with a well reviewed provider who is more willing to have a great evening...

Fantasy fulfillment is a huge part of seeing porn star providers for some guys. There can be an excitement and thrill in finally meeting (and screwing) someone that you lusted over for so long that is unlike any other experience. Likewise such built-up expectations can be the cause of major disappointment.
The first guy that reviewed Briana openly discussed his experience on the Porn Star board. In summary he said that he was very glad he saw her and that he had no regrets whatsoever but he also said that he did not think he'd go down that path with her again.
Some will read that conclusion and think he was disappointed relative to his pricey expenditure. Perhaps so but I'm inclined to think that possiby he lived out a major fantasy and took advantage of a very rare opportunity for him and that he will never forget it. The uniqueness of that first meeting may not ever be able to be replicated so that could account for the admission that this was a one-time thing for him.
An outside reader, knowing about her exceedingly high rates, may think that anything less than a 10,10 review is indicative of disappointment. I can't buy into that thinking because at the end only he knows if it was really worth it to him.
Let Hardy spend an evening with Briana..I am sure I will somehow have the best night of my life and still give her a 6 for looks and 7 for performance... (remember guys, its all in the comments)
That aside, especially with my level of emotional attachment towards providers, I would have an impossible time justifying $4,000
There have only been a few PSs who ever tempted me to pay $1K+ per session. One was Anna Malle, who I was lucky enough to get a few LDs from once in a club on Long Island. If one of her visits had coincided with some ready cash, I would have probably paid her asking price. Alas, she passed away and it remains a fantasy.
However, most porn stars are rather ordinary in my opinion, and not more beautiful or sexier or more skilled than the many excellent providers that are available at the going rate of $$$ to $$$$.
I know there are a bunch of hobbyists that frequent porn stars at stratospheric rates. These guys, in addition to having much more money than I do, value different things. As another poster said, I can't put a price on someone else's fantasy, only my own.

I have no regrets about having seen Ava Devine, Anna Malle (RIP), Ariana Jollee, Kathy Willets and others. They were all 9-10 in terms of performance and I would probably put Ava at the top. She is IMO the ultimate PSE.
I envy you having been with Anna Malle. She always gave it her all on screen, and I also found her exotic look very sexy. The way her eyes rolled back when she came...Oh My God...I don't think you can fake that.
Some all-out performers working today that I like: Bree Olson, Tory Lane, Eva Angelina. Still, I think that Anna had them beat.

What I’d like to know is, who are these hobbyists who visit porn stars regularly? Are they just super-rich? Are they obsessive fan-boys who would go broke just to be able to live out their fantasies with every woman they’ve ever seen naked on screen? From what I can tell, most hobbyists aren’t living lifestyles of the rich and famous. The majority seem to be from the professional class or the working class, and the average provider probably makes more money than the average client. So who are these hobbyists who see porn stars and shell out the big bucks?
I don't pass judgement on anyone's fantasies. But personally, I wouldn't pay that much even if I could afford it (which I can’t). I just can't wrap my mind around spending so much for something that ends so quickly. I also can't see spending a fortune for a vacation, or a fancy meal, or a bottle of wine. It doesn’t mean that I eat at McDonald’s, or that I never take vacations, I just don’t spend extravagantly. Because once these things are gone, they’re gone, and all that’s left is buyer’s remorse for something that can’t be given back.
Interestingly, a few guys have mentioned Anna Malle in this thread -- I was close to seeing her once, years ago, but I changed my mind (just too expensive). She was the only porn star who ever seriously tempted me to open my wallet for more than just a DVD rental or a download. I was so heartbroken when I found out that she'd passed away. Do I regret not seeing her? Actually, no. Life may be short, but I have bills to pay.
Read the Porn Stars thread here on TER for a while and you'll get some sense of how they present themselves, if not where they get their money. I suspect that some are in the adult industry and are better connected than you or I, although I don't know if they are getting discounts. Fasteddie, one of the mods, always has informative posts, and he started an interesting thread recently.

When you say that they might be in the adult industry, I assume you mean they're producers or investors in adult films. I never thought of that. One of the posters in this thread mentioned that some girls make just one or two films, and then charge more money for sessions, billing themselves as pornstars -- this is also new to me, but I wonder why more girls haven't thought to do this.
Anyway, don't get me wrong, there are plenty of Porn stars I'd love to be with; Daphne Rosen, Mika Tan, Harley Raine, Taylor St. Claire, Kylie Ireland, and Gianna Michaels among others come to mind. But come on -- $1,000? $1,500? $4,000?!?!?!?!? WTF? It makes sense from an economic standpoint, though -- if these "famous" girls charged like $300/hr, they'd be swamped with calls from every loser with a credit card. I mean, some guys would cash-in their savings bonds and donate blood if they had to. But for $1,500/hr, they can keep pretty busy, keep the "losers" (read as: poor people) away, and ultimately make more money. But not from me. I'd happily book a four-hour session with a girl who charges $250/hr, though. It's all about perspective.

In my case, that was $350, and I've since spent more, and contemplated even higher. $4,000 is still way out of my league, because I can't justify it, although I could afford it. I could see myself spending $1,000 in the right circumstances, if it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It would probably not be worth it in a sexual sense, but it's like going to the Grand Canyon...you just gotta say you did it.
