There's a chance I may be taking an exclusive gig out of the country for a year or so. How have other providers dealt with this as far as maintaining a presence so you don't have to start out again from scratch when you get back? I was thinking of leaving my site up, but not advertising on directories, and keeping a sort of travel journal on my blog.

Doubt it happens here, but on some of the smaller boards if people think you've announced your retirement and then you post again, they freak out and get hostile. So I'm not going anywhere just yet 
And even if/when I do, I'll only be away, not retired.
