Personally I don't find the topic to be that interesting.

Do you take as much interest in your dentist's life as you do your provider's?

there is work then there is work!!!!!

Example:  Going to work as a School Teacher, Nurse, Dentist, Restaurant Manager.   Then compare that with going to work as a professional Football Player, star on a TV Show, etc.

All are forms of work but in the latter form there is a "lot more flexibility, freedom, being shielded from the normal vicissitudes of life"  

Providers get to pick and choose their clients, they get to demand certain behavior from their clients (which is damn near unheard of for most people - How many teachers, nurses, waiters get to pick and choose whom they want to serve?)

Providers get to set their own schedules.  That is unheard of even for people who derive a large part of their income from commissions or bonuses.  A big part of my pay is bonus.  And if I told my boss "hey man I am only showing up on the days when I can effect the bonus portion of my pay" -- they would throw my black ass out real quick like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, selling your body is not normal and there are a bunch of reasons why it is not comparable to other jobs.  

But I would argue that women who work in labor intensive jobs (i.e., construction, factory jobs where you have to stand all day, etc.) are more physically affected than Providers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Knee/hip replacements, hearing loss, etc. are common attributes of physically intensive careers.  I have never heard of a vagina replacement because it was used too much.

So no I will not classify sex work as REAL WORK.  It is just NOT and it is about time that Providers start to realize this fact of life.

And another thing I don't really give a fuck if this pisses off some people.  It's the truth.

Man, I get mad at the media misrepresentation they described. The hypocrisy and self righteousness of journalists (and the public) pretending to "save" prostitutes is just enraging. Then they talk about catching hell from the feminists too, who insist sex work is never a choice, but a degrading result of oppression.  

Anyway that was interesting, thanks for sharing. Wish they'd had longer time to speak. I think the powers that be had to put a cap on them quick before too much truth was spoken lol.

I was a big fan of $PREAD.  It makes me angry to see competing propaganda camps 'claiming' sex workers as either (a) victims or (b) empowered feminists.  We are just people, folks.  And - like most humans - very few of us land on either extreme of any spectrum.

I purchased a copy of the anthology when it came out, and just loved it. I'm buying a second copy to send down to my parents, highlighted with things most relevant to them, and that I think they'll find the most interesting. I'll be doing the same with Prose and Lore (sending a highlighted copy down to them), which is another great source. It's a literary journal of sex worker memoirs. I have the collected issues 1-5, and might be submitting to their next issue - yay!

He exhibits symptoms of a mental disorder of some kind.  I have come to believe that Tidwell actually believes the lies he tells.  He defends himself because he believes that he is the one who is in the right.

He is telling lies on this thread; He claims to have “dozens of emails” from others who support him, yet yesterday he posted that he is not VIP so can't get PMs and those of us with experience here KNOW that he did not get “dozens” of emails from those who support him.  His lies approach lunacy... but there is possibly another factor at work here.
 
The fact is that he is caught telling lies on this board continually and nothing anyone says or does is going to dissuade him from the lies.  It's called "Cognitive Distortion"  I had a executive working for me some years ago and it took a while but even his superior ability was affected by this aliment and it brought his downfall.   Tidwell exhibits almost all of the behavior associated with this disorder.

Maybe everyone is right, he is just a liar and manipulator, but I think there is something much more serious going on.  BTW, as I have learned,  people who are afflicted with "Cognitive Distortion" may at times turn violent when they don't get their way, making someone so afflicted dangerous too.  Tidwell's aggressive lashing out at others on the boards fits that symptom too.

And before any fucktard starts with “are you a psychologist?” and quit attacking poor Rod, the answer is no, I'm simply saying that he has the symptoms of a serious disorder based on the way he thinks and this is not an attack.  It is however a vote for Tidwell being named co-SPOAT or maybe he has knocked JCA out of first place, but, as BigPapasan says, that decision is above my pay grade.

I too believe that he actually believes that he is being singled out for persecution and that everything he say is the truth. Perhaps even the huge lie about the emails, or is it PM's that he is receiving by the boat load, supporting him and condemning "us" who ever the fuck "us" is.

We've seen many try that angle...and it's never a viable reason to believe that poster.

Honestly, I've know people like Tidwell who honestly create a faux world full of their lies.  As mnjohnny pointed out, they honestly believe the nonsense...so to them it becomes their reality.

Just like all ladies on this planet are different and come into your path having had a wealth of different experiences which has carved them into who they are, so is the case with each and every sex worker. Grouping ladies as "feminists" or each provider as part of a group called "sex workers" and then treating them all with the same sort of conduct is very detrimental. Our society loves to classify and categorize people into boxes because then we each don't have to do the work to understand one individual from another and rather just see them as a "group" but the hazard in this is that we run into massive problems as each person has a mix of ideas, thoughts, morals and values they are bringing to the table. I wish that we as a society would not be so quick to group people but rather slow down and get to know the complexities of each person so that we can relate to them in a way that benefits us both.

Have you ever seen one of those anchovy "bait balls" on National Geographic?  That's what those guys remind me of, swarming all over each to escape the dreaded maw of *gasp* intelligent discussion.

Yah, there's more flexibility alright lol. I can agree with most of your premise, but you do realize not all providers operate like I do? You're assuming we can all just post on TER nonstop and only see a couple guys a month to make it.  I live in a town where the cost of living is cheap as hell compared to bigger cities, so providers here do not need to see but one guy a week at 500 a pop to live, and live well.  

I know some who literally see 2 and 3 guys a day 5 days a week and have for years... that's an 8-12 hour day depending on how long each appt. lasts, how long of a break inbetween, getting ready, the travel etc. I have worked a 12 hour day in restaurant management and not been nearly as drained after just one 2 hour appointment providing... or as drunk ha ha ha.  

So yea, if you know how to market yourself and pick a price point that gives you room to breathe, this can be a very rewarding, fun and luxury job... problem is, that's not the case for the majority. They charge too little and work too damn much, so it becomes a chore vs. a fun job.  

I mean you get to travel for free, eat for free and get paid to fk. Still, if I had to do it 5 days a week or even 3 days a week for that matter, I would quickly burn out. For many, that is how it is though. They are constantly working as escorts, porn stars, cam girls etc. to make the money they need to pay their high end bills. I can live off of 2300 a month easily.  That gets you a condo on the beach in a high rise, and not just a one bedroom. Try a 3 bdrm, two bath and a balcony that can fit 30 people for about 1700. In New Orleans, that's a lakehouse.  

NYC, LA, Chicago.., not so much and many providers want to live in those areas so they need to work to pay the bills.

I went to a local release party for this book, and it was really wonderful.  It was sponsored/supported by SWOP, which probably owes a lot of it's formative beginnings to $pread.  Some of the stories are really touching, some are disturbing, some are hilarious.  $pread aimed to be a voice for all types of sex-workers, and even addressed it's own issues of bias, and invited all types of voices to submit articles and interviews. Even those who were not supportive of the sex-workers rights movement.  

I think its worth a read for anyone who participates in P4P, or has an interest in sex-worker/hooker stories.
