I would prefer to have my clit being played with, for I cannot cum with a finger being rammed into me. Other ladies can, I am pretty sure. Just not for me..
Great question BR. I've now been fingering women, or not, as they desire, for 35 years. During that time, I've learned/been taught AT LEAST 50 different ways to do it.
Many of the methods require strength and coordination. I have trouble with those, especially applying both at the same time. Some require speed. Others a very delicate touch. Several methods require an additional finger(s) elsewhere, an appliance or my lesser memeber.
Upon fingering one provider to completion a while back, I was told: "(gasp) how did you learn to (gasp) do that? I didn't think (gasp) anyone could do that!"
As *-* says, some women strongly prefer we keep our fingers to ourselves, whereas others would ONLY cum if I fingered them vigorously while they rode me...
