put big bold notice on the FAQ for Newbies page...

... 'If you are a Newbie or here in TER for the first time, go to the Self-Help Center before posting here.'

it seems that everyday someone new comes in and asks the same question... and a large majority of the time, the regulars are always pointing the Newbies to the Self-Help Center.

why not make it a lot more obvious and see if that helps those newbies.  

having that stupid lifesaver icon on that page isn't helping. the newbies seem to be oblivious to that.

has anyone in TER noticed that it's always the same 3 idiots?

Other forums sites keep the first thread on a page as a link to the FAQ or Newby section.

Worst case we try it and the number of lost people goes up, and then the site can switch back to the life-ring icon.
Best case it works like a champ and newbies learn on their own.

Or we make no changes and keep dealing with the same amount of "help me" requests on the Newbie page.

yea, I've seen that at a few places before...

... and that's how I found the proper info when I was a new member of that website.  

Let's see if TER admins will add that. It's not hard to code that into the webpages.
