Probably not the first time it's been mentioned but I think the suggestion in the linked comment is worth consideration.

 
I get that TER wants to incentivize reviews and so willing to reward those that write them. But if people are too generous they get abused. Most here think that might be the case for a number (what %???? don't know) of review. Pure fiction, never happened but the author wants full VIP access.

 
The happy medium could be requiring VIP accounts to start off with a paid subscription. If you never bought your VIP then you never get it by submitting reviews. What level of subscription and for how long might be a interesting aspect that TER wants to think about and tune for both keeping people interested in writing reviews and paying to see the reviews. I would think some type of scaling might be possible. Buy a month and submit reviews allows you to extent that paid membership to X months but no father. Same with a quarterly or annual membership and how much extended time can be earned writing review.

 
Might improve quality in the reduction of fake for free VIP reviews.
