Combine login and terms-of-service screens

This suggestion would save time for members AND create one fewer thing for TER's server to attend to. When you get to the splash screen, you have to approve terms of service (fair enough). Then you have to login in (fair enough). Why not have the member-enter button include acceptance of the TOS?

As it is, we're asked far too frequently to log in.

Once is too many times?  That's all I ever have to logon during a browser session.

You don't have to accept the Terms of Service?

And yes, as a separate issue, once during every browser session if much too often if you open and close browser sessions during the day. What is the sense in having to log in more than once a day if that?

I bypass the TOS screen.  Once you pass that, bookmark the next page.  Then use that bookmark to open to that page, bypassing the TOS screen, every time.  Of course I don't recommend this if you are trying to hide your activities from a SO.

Of course once you close a browser windows you have to logon again.  That's basic browser security.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll try that.

But what do you mean by "basic browser security"? There's two reasons for security: for the client or for the server. As the client, I should be able to choose whether I want to take the trouble of logging in. If I'm at my home computer, there's really no reason to supply a password as far as I'm concerned.

That leaves the server. TER needs to protect itself so that expired users cannot access protected areas. It shouldn't have to do that more than once per day, at most.
