Was listening to ESPN radio yesterday, heard Papelbon's comments on Billy Wagner. Nice way to greet your new teammate.

And one wonders why the Red Sox are sinking! You would think he would welcome Wagner to take some of the load off of him. I guess he decided to show his selfish side.

there is an attitude that is absolutely required to be a successful closer. There is only room for one closer on a team, and a team picking up a second closer can only serve to rattle the cage. There has never been a closer who said, "oh good, the team's picking up another closer to help with some of my load". Yeah, right. Ask Sparky Lyle and Rich Gossage.

Any pitcher worth a nickel wants the ball, all the time. Bob Gibson never said, "thanks for coming out to get me skip, I was getting tired." He said, "get your fucking ass off my mound or I'll kill you, your wife, your whole goddamn family." But you never hear anybody calling Bob Gibson an asshole, except the batters he had to face

it's more than just a competitive attitude.  He just doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut!

Papelbon's authority and production the last couple of years gives him the right say what he wants to say because at the end of the game, it's his responsibility to close the game with a win.  He said nothing wrong... He was just simply up front about who the boss is in the Red Sox bullpen! It should be interesting!!!

Anyone with an ounce of baseball knowledge would LOVE to have him as their closer.

That's the problem with a lot of players today. Their overall baseball knowledge amounts to about an ounce. They can't see beyond their own selfishness, can't see the big picture about what's good for the team.

In pro sports you never bash a teamate like that. Even if you feel that way you STFU! How is it going to look when Papelbon is giving Wagner the hi-five after a big save? It's going to look fake.

I remember Greg Popovich coming home from a family vacation early, just to tell Tony Parker to STFU when Parker bashed the spurs for courting Jason Kidd.

I think Scranton-Wilksbare ot Trenton thunder may need a closer.
