I have never watched a college basketball game in my entire life.. And I am fine w/ it.
I've watched college and pro B-Ball on the tube over the years. It's terrible and doesn't engage me. Not a fan. (What do they say? "You only have to watch the final 2 minutes anyway.") Sometimes, the play-by-play and color is so terrible that I turn it off. Sometimes, the reffing is so terrible that I turn it off. (For years, I had to listen to Johnny Most calling the Celtics games. What a homer!)

The instant replays show just how bad the B-Ball reffing is, college and pro. And the p-by-p and color guys mostly support it to hype a play / player: "What a fantastic blocked shot! What an athlete! Whoo hoo!" ignoring the jersey grab and arm slam. They should really have, "Well, the refs blew that one." on a tape loop.

I remember a college game, years ago, where the color guy (famous guy who also did commercials; I don't remember his name but I remember his grating voice) is screaming his head off, "I can't believe it! We are 8 minutes into this game between two of the highest scoring teams and there hasn't even been one shot!" Well, the score was still 0-0 but there had been multiple missed shots, even missed layups. I turned off the TV and didn't watch any more B-Ball on TV for at least 10 years.

I watched some NFL this year and the announcing was great (Tony Romo?) and the reffing was amazingly good. Replays showed many close, correct calls. I think a lot of it was "gut" reactions: Did the line judge actually see the guy's foot less than one inch on the sideline on that 80 yard run? Nah, but everything (body position, running style, general movements, ...) generated the correct call and the replay cameras zoom in and show (prove) the foot just barely on the line.

Baseball has been historically better since umps only have to focus on very specific things: safe or out? fair or foul? Very little action away from the ball (tagging up early or not). Balls and strikes? Well, that's for another rant.

B-Ball: 3 refs watching / 10 players = 0.3
F-Ball: 7 refs / 22 players = 0.32
Baseball: 4 umps / 10 - 13 players = 0.4 - 0.3

I was never that much of a fan....until I saw Len Bias play and then the Gary Williams coached teams of the 1990's-early 2000's. The annual dook-Terps game was the hot ticket in town.....better than the Redskins-Cowboys games.
I recall selling my dook/Terps tix one year for over $1k....
Definitely more fun than watching the stupid so-called game with the spotted ball and where the clock goes the wrong way.....

Perhaps, your needs are directed elsewhere as with the ambiguous ESPN documentary I hate Christian Laettner which only perpetuates and stereotypes these types of comments. Duke is in the final 16, much to your dismay. Learn to live with that.
