...horses who won the Derby & Preakness since Affirmed (37 years ago) but lost in the Belmont?  It's hard for a front-runner to win at a mile and a half.

37 years. Affirmed was the last in 1978. I grew up in Kentucky and we're required to know these things. I think he's got as good a shot as any that have come before. Going wire to wire on Saturday made a believer out of me.

As far as races go, he came in 3rd once, 2nd twice, then won every other race. I  think 17???

Back in 1978, the year I graduated from high school.  That was 37 years ago...

I still consider Secretariat to be the best TC winner that I actually saw win, at least on TV.  At Belmont, it was a blow-out 31 length victory, almost beyond comprehension.

That being said, I would bet against American Pharoah.  What's the point in betting unless you can win some decent money?
