bring all the money to his door?  He will have to say "no" before ND leaves him alone.

"as long as they will have him." ESPN said this morning that Bob Stoops from Oklahoma has been mentioned, along with Brian Kelly from Cincinnati. Weis has reportedly had several NFL teams contact him about possible coaching jobs, including Indianapolis. That would be interesting, Weis as the Colts' offensive coordinator against his old boss.

... all the trustees in their suits (or whatever they wear), coming up with the short list after Weis is out:

Trustee 1: Put Urban Meyer on the list.

Trustee 2: But he already said he was staying at Florida.  You saw it yourself reported by the "worldwide leader."

Trustee 1: So what?

trustee 2: Well that's not right ... we should respect his own words.

Trustee 1: Words Shmerds!  Put him on the list.

twice (or more) of what Meyer makes now.  Florida has 25 seniors and about 10 jrs. who will be jumping to the NFL (per CBS).  Meyer will have to start over if he stays.

Weiss's buyout is reduced by his NFL salary as an O-coordinator (currently there are 8 teams intereste).

It was reported today that Charlie had already cleaned out his office. However, until the ND powers that be figure out that the problem began with self imposed higher academic standards, you can dig up Vince Lombardi and Knute Rockne and they still won't be national contenders. I don't expect this to happen any time soon and ND will continue to be good but not great. The greatest jockey in history can't win the Kentucky Derby if he's riding a jackass: and ND with the world's greatest coach won't get it done without getting the best players, which it can't get now because of it standards. I think Urban Meyer would be a fool to go there, even if they gave him Fort Knox.  1rob...looking fwd to Ala-Fla this weekend...OUT

Academic standards or not, ND has been recruiting top players all throughout the Davie, Willingham, and Weis years. ND is routinely in the top 10-20 every year in recruiting. They have three future NFL players on their offense right now (Tate, Floyd, Clausen), racking up 30 points per game. The current ND team (on paper) had enough talent to win at least 10 games this year.

ND's problem is not a lack of talent on the field, it's a lack of coaching ability on the defense. Their defense has been horrible for years, and not in just one area. Their OL is porous against the run, their secondary is mediocre against the pass. And in general they lack fundamentals - routinely missing tackles, allowing small gains to become large gains. This points to a lack of coaching ability on the defensive side of the ball.

all the rumors, speculation, etc. about who the next Notre Dame coach will be.  My guess?  Kelly from Cincinnati.
