but if it happens (and we'll know officially very soon), Mike Riley will NOT be replacing him.  Riley just signed a new 3 year deal with OSU.  Supposedly, Carroll will take a number of his staff with him.

Although he performed pretty well as Pats head coach....I think he made the playoffs two of his three seasons. But he was perceived as the perfect college coach...the ability to lead and cultivate 18-21 year olds but not coach older professional athletes. The "Rah Rah" approach doesnt work in the NFL

It's surprising only in the sense that he was one of the leaders of college coaching and well settled at USC. (The King of the proverbial castle). But he is just 50 years old, so if he fails in Seattle, he will have plenty of college opportunities again.

NFL, as offensive coordinator with the Chiefs. That's probably were he's most comfortable. He was way over his head at Notre Dame.

I hate to see him leave USC as I think he's really good for the college game. Seems like most coaches who make the jump to the pros mention that not having to recruit players is a factor. He'll be missed.

I seriously doubt if he'll have the same success in the NFL that he had at USC.

Steve Spurrier. Carroll will be missing USC in a year or two.

USC may not be missing Carroll after the NCAA is finished with its review.

Carroll will be 59 this year and as successful as he was at USC he was in a situation where the athletic director hated him and was making life miserable. Mike Garrett is responsible as anyone for Carroll leaving USC.  He wanted Carroll out and now will have to live with the consequences.

stay in the NFL because sanctions against USC will follow him if he tries to go back to college.

I would have to guess that the whole Athletic department at USC is on thin ice with all the allegations and investigations going on. But Garrett has to be ultimately responsible for this mess.

It's sad how the have screwed the pooch of late.  I trace their downfall back to the choice to be cheap and save $500,000 on Hutch.  Since then it's been a downward spiral for us, and the last two years have just blown chunks!
