As an alumnus of a Pac-10 school not named USC, I wonder

how many Oregon Ducks, USC Trojan, California Golden Bear, UCLA Bruin fans et al would rather see their team in the Rose Bowl than the National Championship. This year's BCS National Championship will be played in the Rose Bowl and I am not a happy camper.

I like to be retro and be all for the BIG-TEN champion and PAC-10 champions playing in the ROSE BOWL, again. Really, who needs the BCS? All the BCS is about is about the FLorida schools rigging an event to suit their needs.

The BCS needs the Rose Bowl more than Rose Bowl needs the BCS. I personally always enjoyed the Rose Bowl no matter who was playing. IT was fun.

There will never be a BCS playoff format regardless of what Obama or the SEC say. The Big 10 Commissoner is even more ardent than his PAC 10 counterpart about maintaining the Rose Bowl tradition, and not entertaining a playoff. Do I dare say the Rose Bowl generates the most money and ratings of any bowl, and that is one big reason why there will be no changes.

Now as a Bruin alum, I can only hope for a Rose Bowl berth. Granted, all Bruins hate the Trojans, but I do admire what Pete Carroll has done, and the type of offense he runs, which means anything but that gay spread offense crap. (lol). That shit has now infiltrated high schools. PLus most of the kids on the Trojans and Bruins come from So Cal high schools.

So my answer is yes to the Rose Bowl vs the BCS. Something about the long tradition (Granddaddy), perfect weather, great stadium, etc. Though the Big Ten better start performing because it seems Jan 1 is turning into an annual USC beatdown of the Big Ten.

highlight of the college football season (after Michigan-Ohio State, of course), even if the Big Ten has taken it on the cheek lately.  I couldn't care less about the SEC (the SEC hasn't fared too well against Michigan - check it out).

about the MONEY ... people just lining their pockets on the backs of college players ........ Does their really need to be a "National Champ" who really cares .... we've seen it happen in all sports on any givin day the upset can always happen ... just look at last year .........

What's funny is that if USC can get thru the season undefeated, and Penn St does the same, the Rose Bowl could very well be the BCS Championship game while still hosting B10 vs Pac10.

Keep your fingers crossed, assuming you want "tradition" more than you want your own school to do well.

... I would not be surprised to see the Gators vieing for the title even if they had one loss.  Wasn't it a few years ago when Michigan (or was it Ohio State?) got frog leaped due to the fact they were inactive for a week at the end of that season?

It is absolutely ridiculous, but I heard college experts say that a one loss Florida team would jump an undefeated Penn State.  They were blaming Penn State's non-conference schedule. They failed to mention that Florida's non-conference schedule is a joke and they don't even play Alabama or Mississippi this year.  Florida has not traveled out of the south this decade for an away game.  PLAYOFFS!!!!

Sorry, Bob, but your not gonna get a lot of help with this issue. The B10 SUCKS, and is finally getting the attention they deserve, as the worst of the BCS conferences. Yes, they are worse top to bottom than the BE.

Florida has a weak OOC schedule, but they have the benefit of playing in the SEC, which has been peaking the last 5 years.

Penn State however, even if they run the table, has a weak OOC schedule AND a weak B10 conference. Their only tough opponent is OSU.

Normally the B10 might benefit from not having a championship game. This is not one of those years. The "Body of Work" of the winner of the SEC, even with one loss, will be better than an undefeated PSU. Same for Texas. A one-loss Texas or Oklahoma jumps PSU as well.

etc. SEC is overrated. Besides when Florida plays in the BCS championship game it is generally on their hometurf. I like to see Florida play Michigan or even PITT in the snow and mud, they wouldn't be so tough.

oh by way ...what about the Oregon state Beavers beaten up on PITT last year, wasn't that a classic!

PEACE!

Duck,Cougar, or Bruin Fan that would not prefer the Rose Bowl over some BCS championship game. As some of you gentlemen said, the ROSE BOWL is the granddaDDY of bowls and the BCS is BS and all about money.

All well I guess I am only a fart in a whirlwind, but it feels good I am not a alone in my sentiments.

The BCS championship game is being played in the Rose Bowl in 2010 but it comes after the Rose Bowl game. If a Pac-10 or Big 11 team makes the BCS title game the Rose Bowl game will have the first choice to pick a replacement team for its game and choose the conference runner up if that team meets the BCS criteria and maintain the Pac-10/Big 11 matchup.  But the way the BIg 11 has gotten its ass kicked in the Rose Bowl in recent years wouldn't a Pac-10/Mountan West game be more entertaining and competitive?

Breaker, I'm with you. Let me say first off, there are too many damn bowl games to begin with. Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Orange Bowl, and the rest can fuck off. Waste of TV time. Just a few years ago teams with a 7-5 records went to a couple of the 'make believe' bowl games. Rose Bowl is the #1 all time, cream of the crop, bowl game, IMHO. And the Big 10 should go back to being the Big 10. Penn State should go home. The BCS, as stated many times here, is all about money and recruiting possibilities. Who needs It? Not a USC fan, but I always enjoyed the USC vs Notre Dame game. My ATF however, is UCLA vs USC. Go Bruins, GO!!!!
