Johan Santana
As if the Mets didn't have enough woes, it seems that Santana will be shut down for the rest of the season, and may need elbow surgery. He's supposed to have an MRI soon. Not exactly the best way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the '69 "Amazing Mets!"
Without looking it up on the internet, can anyone name the Mets starting line-up in the World Series that year?
Wow, you got me going here. Here's what I remember (or what I think I remember):
1. left field - Cleon Jones
2. center field - Tommie Agee
3. right field - Ron Swoboda (sp?)
4. first base - Ed Kranepool
5. third base - Ed Charles
6. catcher - Jerry Grote
Second and shortstop I can't seem to remember, although I do remember that Roy McMillan was an early shortstop with the Mets.
However, I DO remember their starting pitchers. Seaver, Koosman, Gentry and Ryan. Those guys are hard to forget!
The Mets injury list this year has been absolutely amazing. I totally sympathize with all Mets fans!
Kudos for getting 6 of the 8 in the field! The other two were Al Weis at second base and Bud Harrelson was at shortstop.
SI had picked them to be WS Champs this year, so not surprising. If JS had to go down, it might as well be this year.
Maybe it is the cures of Madoff.
