on Long Island, this is sad news, as Hofstra has been THE local school there for sports.

Sad.....I played sports against Hofstra in mid 60's.     But it's just getting to be too expensive.    Didn't Northeastern just do the same?

Now I know this is a serious sport's board.

They did not play my favorite sport at least at a high level.

and Larry Brown were all well-known, great basketball players, particularly Dr. J.  Matt Snell was an All-America football player, and had a great pro career with the Jets.  All these guys played at an EXTREMELY high level.

LI guys, particularly from the 50's, could answer this in a NY minute (and in a nanosecond if they're from the South Shore).  BTW, you can add John Mackey to the list.  He was awesome in high school - I had intimate, first-hand experience facing him on the opposite side!
